commentary: w indies v sri lanka
Lara falls for just two runs.
By Dave Tickner
Sri Lanka (303 for five) beat West Indies (190 all out) by 113 runs
Absolute annihalation in Guyana, with West Indies never in the game from the time when Jayasuriya started teeing off about 15 overs in. The batting from the hosts was limp, with Chanderpaul the only man offering significant resistance, but scoring far too slowly to worry the Sri Lankans, who look good for the semi-finals at least.

D Powell b Jayasuriya 2 (4)
A couple of singles, and Jayasuriya then gets a quicker ball through Powell to wrap things up for the impressive Sri Lankans.
Over 44: Powell pushes the last ball of Murali's over down the ground for a single.
West Indies 188/9 (RR: 4.27): Bradshaw 5* (16), Powell 1* (2)
West Indies need 116 runs to win from 36 balls at 19.33 runs per over.
Powell is the last man for the hosts.

JE Taylor lbw b Muralitharan 13 (9)
Taylor heaves the ball into the legside, and a Tharanga misfield lets the ball through to the boundary. Murali is unimpressed. A delicate sweep shot gets Taylor two more, but he then falls leg-before propping half-forward.
Murali is back into the attack.
Over 43: Bradshaw sweeps for a single, and Taylor gets another single with a dab to short third-man. A quiet over from Sanath after the fun and games of Malinga.
West Indies 181/8 (RR: 4.21): Bradshaw 5* (16), Taylor 7* (5)
West Indies need 123 runs to win from 42 balls at 17.57 runs per over.
Over 42: Taylor was ready for the yorker and digs it out with his toes well out of the way. The same yorker-defensive routine follows from the next delivery, but Taylor gets off the mark next ball with an unconvincing prod over cover as Malinga tries a slower ball. Well bowled. Malinga goes for the yorker again from the final ball of the over, but it turns out to be a low full-toss, and Taylor biffs it over the bowler's head for four.
West Indies 179/8 (RR: 4.26): Bradshaw 4* (11), Taylor 6* (4)
West Indies need 125 runs to win from 48 balls at 15.63 runs per over.
Taylor is the new batsman.

S Chanderpaul b Malinga 76 (110)
Chanderpaul plays one stunning shot, picking Malinga up over square-leg for his fifth six, but immediately perishes; the next ball is a bit fuller, and uproots the off stump as the batsman looks to go big again. Battling innings from Chanderpaul, but he just took too long to get going.
Over 41: Just two singles from the first four balls of Jayasuriya's over, and Bradshaw gets another with a risky one after sweeping to Jayawardene. Chanderpaul gets another one from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 167/7 (RR: 4.07): Chanderpaul 70* (108), Bradshaw 4* (11)
West Indies need 137 runs to win from 54 balls at 15.22 runs per over.
Over 40: Malinga is straight into yorker mode, but Chanderpaul manages to get the second down the ground for a single. Another yorker is dug out by Bradshaw, who is beaten by a slower ball from the canny Malinga. Bradshaw squirts the final ball to third-man for a single.
West Indies 163/7 (RR: 4.08): Chanderpaul 68* (106), Bradshaw 2* (7)
West Indies need 141 runs to win from 10 overs at 14.10 runs per over.
Murali's got some tap today, and he's now out of the attack and replaced by Malinga.
Over 39: Chanderpaul works to midwicket for a single, and Bradshaw gets off the mark with a single from his third ball. Chanderpaul gets another single from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 161/7 (RR: 4.13): Chanderpaul 67* (104), Bradshaw 1* (3)
West Indies need 143 runs to win from 11 overs at 13.00 runs per over.
Bradshaw is the new man, but the batsmen crossed so he won't be facing.

D Ramdin c Vaas b Jayasuriya 2 (5)
Ramdin top-edges a sweep into the legside, and Vaas runs in from the square-leg boundary to take a simple catch. What a shoddy performace this is from West Indies, who look to be heading out of the World Cup.
Over 38: Chanderpaul works to leg for a single, and Ramdin gets off the mark with a wristy flick to midwicket for another. Chanderpaul guides the ball behind square for a single, and Ramdin gets another. West Indies are halfway there. Chanderpaul goes over midwicket again, and again gets full value with six runs.
West Indies 158/6 (RR: 4.16): Chanderpaul 65* (102), Ramdin 2* (4)
West Indies need 146 runs to win from 12 overs at 12.17 runs per over.
Over 37: Ramdin survives a big leg-before shout first ball, with Hawk-Eye suggesting it was just missing. He blocks the final ball of the over.
West Indies 148/6 (RR: 4.00): Chanderpaul 57* (98), Ramdin 0* (2)
West Indies need 156 runs to win from 13 overs at 12.00 runs per over.
Ramdin is the new batsman for West Indies.

DR Smith run out (Malinga/Sangakkara) 0 (2)
Calypso-collapso, as Smith tries to take a ludicrous single that's just not there. Chanderpaul sends him back, but Malinga's throw is too good, and Sangakkara takes the bails off with Smith inches short of his ground.
Over 36: Smith is the new batsman for West Indies with Murali striking from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 147/5 (RR: 4.08): Chanderpaul 56* (96), Smith 0* (0)
West Indies need 157 runs to win from 14 overs at 11.21 runs per over.

MN Samuels lbw b Muralitharan 3 (5)
Chanderpaul launches another slog-sweep into the stands for his third six to bring up a bizarre half-century; he's blocked everything apart from three huge sixes over long-on. He gets a single, and Samuels adds another two balls later, and Chanderpaul another to midwicket. And the final ball of the over straightens from around the wicket and traps Samuels in front of middle. Simple lbw decision for Daryl Harper, and Murali strikes.
Chanderpaul 50: 94 balls, 1 x 4, 3 x 6s
Over 35: Samuels gets off the mark with a single first ball, and Chanderpaul adds another to third-man. Samuels pushes down the ground for one more, and Chanderpaul works to leg again, with a single the result.
West Indies 138/4 (RR: 3.94): Chanderpaul 48* (93), Samuels 2* (2)
West Indies need 166 runs to win from 15 overs at 11.06 runs per over.
Marlon Samuels is the new batsman.

RR Sarwan st Sangakkara b Jayasuriya 44 (68)
Chanderpaul works Jayasuriya into the legside for a single, but Sarwan then misses with a wild attempt to slog over the legside. Sangakkara whips the bails off before Sarwan can get the bat down and collects his second stumping.
Over 34: Chanderpaul sweeps hard into the legside for a single, and Sarwan chips the ball downthe ground for a single, the ball landing just short of Malinga at long-off. Chanderpaul sweeps again, but this time high over midwicket for a maximum. He blocks into the offside for a single, and there is at least some entertainment on offer now.
West Indies 133/3 (RR: 3.91): Chanderpaul 45* (90), Sarwan 44* (67)
West Indies need 171 runs to win from 16 overs at 10.69 runs per over.
Drinks. Some belated effort from these two batsmen to raise the scoring rate, but it's come far too late to keep them in this contest.
Over 33: Three singles from the first three balls of the over, but Sarwan then uses his feet nicely to get Jayasuriya over midwicket for four. He adds two more with a force through cover off the back foot, and carves over cover for two more to end the over, a good one for West Indies.
West Indies 124/3 (RR: 3.76): Chanderpaul 37* (87), Sarwan 43* (64)
West Indies need 180 runs to win from 17 overs at 10.59 runs per over.
Over 32: Sarwan hits down the ground for a single, and Chanderpaul adds another. Sarwan cuts late behind point and scampers back for a second.
West Indies 113/3 (RR: 3.53): Chanderpaul 35* (85), Sarwan 34* (60)
West Indies need 191 runs to win from 18 overs at 10.61 runs per over.
Over 31: A rank long-hop from Jayasuriya is smashed over square-leg for six by Sarwan, who adds a single from the next ball. Chanderpaul scampers a leg-bye, and Sarwan adds a single with a drive into the covers. Some belated effort to get the run-rate moving here.
West Indies 109/3 (RR: 3.52): Chanderpaul 34* (81), Sarwan 31* (58)
West Indies need 195 runs to win from 19 overs at 10.26 runs per over.
Over 30: Murali goes round the wicket to Chanderpaul, and instantly fizzes one past the outside edge. Chanderpaul gets a single from the fifth ball of the over, but the rate is up over 10 now despite Sarwan getting another single from the final ball to bring up 100.
West Indies 100/3 (RR: 3.33): Chanderpaul 34* (79), Sarwan 23* (54)
West Indies need 204 runs to win from 20 overs at 10.20 runs per over.
Over 29: Sarwan blocks two then pushes a single, and Chanderpaul then does exactly the same. Normal service resumed.
West Indies 98/3 (RR: 3.38): Chanderpaul 33* (74), Sarwan 22* (53)
West Indies need 206 runs to win from 21 overs at 9.81 runs per over.
Jayasuriya into the attack with his wily left-arm spin.
Over 28: Sarwan sweeps fine on the legside and gets two runs, and then there's a few singles before something incredible happens; Chanderpaul awakens from his slumber to deposit Murali over long-on for six runs.
West Indies 96/3 (RR: 3.43): Chanderpaul 32* (71), Sarwan 21* (50)
West Indies need 208 runs to win from 22 overs at 9.45 runs per over.
Over 27: A fitting way for West Indies to end the powerplay, as Chanderpaul plays out a maiden from Fernando. Come on rain, put us out of our misery.
West Indies 85/3 (RR: 3.15): Chanderpaul 25* (69), Sarwan 17* (46)
West Indies need 219 runs to win from 23 overs at 9.52 runs per over.
Fernando to bowl the final over of the powerplay.
Over 26: Chanderpaul works to midwicket for a single, and gets a second run as the throw comes off the stumps and ricochets away from fielders. Three big-spinning balls in a row beat Chanderpaul outside his off stump, but he does get a single from the final ball of the over. Nine an over needed...
West Indies 85/3 (RR: 3.27): Chanderpaul 25* (63), Sarwan 17* (46)
West Indies need 219 runs to win from 24 overs at 9.13 runs per over.
Over 25: Sarwan gets a single and then - glory be - four runs to Chanderpaul hammered through point. That's the first boundary in over 100 balls. Chanderpaul smashes another cut shot into the offside, but Dilshan makes a world-class diving stop, nicely summing up the difference between the sides. Chanderpaul gets a single with a bunt down the ground, and that's a slightly better - albeit still insufficient - over for West Indies.
West Indies 82/3 (RR: 3.28): Chanderpaul 22* (57), Sarwan 17* (46)
West Indies need 222 runs to win from 25 overs at 8.88 runs per over.
Over 24: Murali operating with a slip and a silly-point. Sri Lanka are rather taking the Michael. Sarwan sweeps for a single, and Chanderpaul gets two for an outside edge wide of slip. Murali tries the doosra, but it's down the legside for a wide. Four off the over - quite expensive in the context of the innings.
West Indies 76/3 (RR: 3.17): Chanderpaul 17* (53), Sarwan 16* (44)
West Indies need 228 runs to win from 26 overs at 8.77 runs per over.
As if things weren't dire enough for the West Indies, into the attack comes one Muttiah Muralitharan.
Over 23: Massive leg-before shout against Sarwan as Fernando tails one into the pads, but it's a fine decision from Mark Benson as the batsman got just outside the line. Sarwan hammers the fourth ball of the over in the air to point where Dilshan puts down a difficult one-handed chance diving to his right. Saved four runs though. Sarwan gets a single to third-man, and a bouncer from Fernando is called wide, but still only two runs from the over.
West Indies 72/3 (RR: 3.13): Chanderpaul 15* (49), Sarwan 15* (42)
West Indies need 232 runs to win from 27 overs at 8.59 runs per over.
Jayawardene also appears to have grown bored. He's taking the third powerplay and Fernando is back into the attack.
Over 22: Two singles from the over, what a waste of time. Seriously, West Indies are completely out of this one.
West Indies 70/3 (RR: 3.18): Chanderpaul 15* (48), Sarwan 14* (37)
West Indies need 234 runs to win from 28 overs at 8.36 runs per over.
Over 21: Just three singles from the over, and the required rate is up over eight an over now. These two part-time spinners Dilshan and Arnold are doing a fine job.
West Indies 68/3 (RR: 3.24): Chanderpaul 14* (45), Sarwan 13* (34)
West Indies need 236 runs to win from 29 overs at 8.14 runs per over.
Something surely has to give here.
Over 20: West Indies are letting this game drift away from them here, collecting just three singles from the over. We officially have a game now, although the contest ended some time ago.
West Indies 65/3 (RR: 3.25): Chanderpaul 12* (43), Sarwan 12* (30)
West Indies need 239 runs to win from 30 overs at 7.97 runs per over.
Over 19: Arnold is racing through his overs, just two singles coming from the latest one.
West Indies 62/3 (RR: 3.26): Chanderpaul 10* (38), Sarwan 11* (29)
West Indies need 242 runs to win from 31 overs at 7.81 runs per over.
Over 18: Very leisurely cricket here, as West Indies garner just three singles from Dilshan's over. The game is rapidly going away from West Indies here.
West Indies 60/3 (RR: 3.33): Chanderpaul 9* (36), Sarwan 10* (25)
West Indies need 244 runs to win from 32 overs at 7.63 runs per over.
Over 17: Chanderpaul gets a single from the first ball of the over, and Sarwan works to leg for another. Chanderpaul eases to deep cover off the back foot for another single, and Sarwan adds another. The only possible explanation for these changes from Jayawardene is a desire to quickly get past the 20-over mark to constitute a match.
West Indies 57/3 (RR: 3.35): Chanderpaul 8* (35), Sarwan 8* (20)
West Indies need 247 runs to win from 33 overs at 7.48 runs per over.
Arnold is into the attack for Sri Lanka, so it's part-time spin at both ends.
Over 16: Just three singles from the Dilshan's first over as the required rate continues to spiral out of control.
West Indies 53/3 (RR: 3.31): Chanderpaul 6* (32), Sarwan 6* (17)
West Indies need 251 runs to win from 34 overs at 7.38 runs per over.
Offspinner Dilshan is into the attack. Bizarrely, Sri Lanka are not taking the powerplay despite having West Indies right on the back foot.
Over 15: Vaas continues his miserly spell, and Chanderpaul is forced into taking a very iffy single from the fifth ball of the over, but he gets home safely. Sarwan survives an optimistic leg-before appeal from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 50/3 (RR: 3.33): Chanderpaul 4* (28), Sarwan 5* (15)
West Indies need 254 runs to win from 35 overs at 7.26 runs per over.
Drinks. Oh dear. This match is effectively over, and so is West Indies' meaningful involvement in the World Cup. Sure, three wins in their final three games might give them a chance, but that looks distinctly unlikely on this evidence.
Over 14: Nice shot through the covers off the back foot from Sarwan, but he gets just two runs as Murali's footwork prevents the boundary. Should have been three, but Sarwan slipped. His spikes look very worn and in need of a change. Sarwan carves the ball to third-man for a single, and Chanderpaul adds another from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 49/3 (RR: 3.50): Chanderpaul 3* (23), Sarwan 5* (14)
West Indies need 255 runs to win from 36 overs at 7.08 runs per over.
Over 13: Chanderpaul nurdles into the legside, but only gets a single as Fernando tears in off the boundary to pick up and get his throw in quickly. Contrast that with the earlier efforts of the West Indies fielders. Sarwan cuts to third-man, and again he can get only a single as Fernando gets to the ball quickly. Another tidy over from Vaas, well backed-up by his fielders. The required rate is up to seven an over now. And Murali hasn't even bowled yet.
West Indies 45/3 (RR: 3.46): Chanderpaul 2* (20), Sarwan 2* (11)
West Indies need 259 runs to win from 37 overs at 7.00 runs per over.
Over 12: Sarwan lunges uncertainly forward, and survives a concerted lbw appeal from Fernando. Height the factor that saved the batsman there. But it's another maiden over for Fernando, and West Indies are on the ropes.
West Indies 43/3 (RR: 3.58): Chanderpaul 1* (16), Sarwan 1* (9)
West Indies need 261 runs to win from 38 overs at 6.87 runs per over.
Over 11: Sarwan gets a single with a push to midwicket, and Chanderpaul plays out the over. Again, that really was top-drawer from Sangakkara. It could well be the decisive moment in this game.
West Indies 43/3 (RR: 3.91): Chanderpaul 1* (16), Sarwan 1* (3)
West Indies need 261 runs to win from 39 overs at 6.69 runs per over.
Sarwan is the new batsman.

BC Lara st Sangakkara b Vaas 2 (4)
Stunning work from Sangakkara stood up to the stumps. Lara aims a drive at Vaas' outswing but misses, and Sangakkara has the bails off in a flash with the batsman's back foot airborne. Stunning wicketkeeping - it's the first stumping in Tests or ODIs off Vaas - and a hammer blow to the hosts' World Cup chances.
Sri Lanka inevitably take the second powerplay.
Over 10: Excellent stuff from Fernando, operating on a tight off-stump line to Chanderpaul and completing a maiden over.
West Indies 42/2 (RR: 4.20): Chanderpaul 1* (14), Lara 2* (3)
West Indies need 262 runs to win from 40 overs at 6.55 runs per over.
Over 9: Lara gets off the mark with a drive through the covers for two runs from the final ball of asuccessful Vaas over.
West Indies 42/2 (RR: 4.67): Chanderpaul 1* (8), Lara 2* (3)
West Indies need 262 runs to win from 41 overs at 6.39 runs per over.
Thankfully, Lara has moved up the order to number four. He is the one man who can get his side close here.

DJ Bravo b Vaas 21 (24)
Chanderpaul gets off the mark with a thick outside edge to third-man for a single, but then Bravo falls - no doubt jinxed by my assertion that he was looking "pretty good". It's a good ball from Vaas, but Bravo will be disappointed; he was a bit late on it and got a thick inside edge onto the stumps, perhaps via pad as well.
Over 8: Fernando almost gets a yorker through Bravo, but it's a no-ball. The next ball is a half-volley and Bravo drives gloriously through extra-cover for four. The final ball of the over is on the leg stump, and Bravo tucks it away nicely for two, and he's looking pretty good at the top of the order.
West Indies 39/1 (RR: 4.88): Bravo 21* (23), Chanderpaul 0* (6)
West Indies need 265 runs to win from 42 overs at 6.31 runs per over.
Fernando has already been involved in the field, but now he'll be bowling.
Over 7: Chanderpaul defends his first delivery solidly into the covers, but the second ball he faces is a perfect outswinger from Vaas that just beats the outside edge. Good over from Vaas, a maiden, as Chanderpaul finds his feet.
West Indies 32/1 (RR: 4.57): Bravo 15* (16), Chanderpaul 0* (6)
West Indies need 272 runs to win from 43 overs at 6.33 runs per over.
Over 6: Bravo gets the ball through midwicket for a couple, before a legside wide evades Sangakkara with a net result of five runs. The next ball is wide outside the off stump. Bravo gets four with a glorious drive off the back foot through the covers. Eventful over - 14 runs, one wicket.
West Indies 32/1 (RR: 5.33): Bravo 15* (16), Chanderpaul 0* (0)
West Indies need 272 runs to win from 44 overs at 6.18 runs per over.
Shiv Chanderpaul is in, one place lower in the order than in recent times. He won't be on strike, as the batsmen crossed.
WICKET!
CH Gayle c Fernando b Malinga 10 (21)
Fantastic stuff from Malinga, deceiving Gayle with a slower ball. Gayle skies it high into the air, and Fernando takes a good catch running back from mid-off. Massive breakthrough.
Over 5: Gayle gets a single to fine-leg, and Bravo then gets another with a dodgy run to mid-off. West Indies do not need a run-out here. Vaas beats Gayle outside the off stump, but it's a no-ball. A single from the final ball of the over mean Gayle will keep the strike.
West Indies 18/0 (RR: 3.60): Gayle 8* (19), Bravo 9* (12)
West Indies need 286 runs to win from 45 overs at 6.36 runs per over.
Over 4: Bravo plays the ball to third-man for a single, and Gayle is then beaten outside off stump. Gayle gets a single to third-man, and Bravo gets underneath a rapid bouncer to end the over.
West Indies 14/0 (RR: 3.50): Gayle 6* (14), Bravo 8* (10)
West Indies need 290 runs to win from 46 overs at 6.30 runs per over.
Over 3: Bravo gets off the mark in good style with a leg glance that finds the boundary easily with fine-leg up in the circle. Bravo gets two more with a crsip drive off the back foot through the covers. A good inswinger from Vaas finds Bravo's inside edge, but it gets the batsman a single.
West Indies 12/0 (RR: 4.00): Gayle 5* (11), Bravo 7* (7)
West Indies need 292 runs to win from 47 overs at 6.21 runs per over.
West Indies 5/0 (RR: 2.50): Gayle 5* (10), Bravo 0* (2)
West Indies need 299 runs to win from 48 overs at 6.23 runs per over.
Lasith Malinga to share the new ball.
Over 1: Immediately some swing for Vaas, but Gayle defends from the crease. Gayle gets a single to mid-off to get off the mark, and Bravo defends the rest of the over.
West Indies 1/0 (RR: 1.00): Gayle 1* (4), Bravo 0* (2)
West Indies need 303 runs to win from 49 overs at 6.18 runs per over.
Chaminda Vaas to bowl the first over of the innings.
Well, there's a change at the top of the order. Bravo has been promoted to open the innings, which does rather smack of desperation from what appears to be a very confused set-up at the moment.
Sri Lanka: 303 for five (50 overs)
West Indies need 304 to win at 6.08 runs per over
West Indies started well, but they quickly became ragged as Jayasuriya took them apart. Their over-rate was dreadful, and the fielding was abysmal. Poor from West Indies, who - unless their batsmen do something magical - are heading out of this tournament with barely a whimper. Thanks to the pitiful over-rate, the lunch break is only about 10 minutes long, so there's not much time for the openers to gather their thoughts.
Over 50: Dilshan carves the ball to deep cover for a single, and Arnold gets another to cover. Dilshan drives into the offside and runs really hard to get back for a second. Dilshan tries to sweep the fourth ball of the over but makes no contact. Dilshan drives the fifth ball hard to long-on, where Taylor lets it through his legs to turn a possible two into four, and Dilshan launches the final ball of the innings 30 rows back behind midwicket for six to bring up 300 for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka 303/5 (RR: 6.06): Dilshan 39* (22), Arnold 4* (4)
Bravo to bowl the final over of the innings.
Over 49: Dilshan chips the ball into the legside for a hard-run two, and the next ball from Sarwan is wide down the legside. Dilshan gets the ball down the ground for a single, and Arnold mistimes a sweep to midwicket for one more. Brilliant innovation from Dilshan to get a reverse-sweep over short third-man for a welcome boundary, and gets a single to deep square-leg to end Sarwan's over.
Sri Lanka 289/5 (RR: 5.90): Dilshan 26* (17), Arnold 3* (3)
Over 48: Nothing from the first ball of the over, but both batsmen pick up singles from the next two balls. A big swing and a miss from Dilshan, and Sri Lanka look to be struggling to make best use of these closing overs until Dilshan picks one up gloriously over square-leg for a maximum. Dilshan keeps the strike with a single from the final ball of the over.
Sri Lanka 279/5 (RR: 5.81): Dilshan 18* (12), Arnold 2* (2)
Bravo is back into the attack, so it looks like Taylor won't bowl his full allocation. Baffling.
Over 47: Two singles from the final two balls of the over, so that's brilliant stuff from Sarwan at this stage of the innings.
Sri Lanka 270/5 (RR: 5.74): Dilshan 10* (7), Arnold 1* (1)
Russel Arnold is the new batsman.

LPC Silva c Lara b Sarwan 23 (31)
Great work from Sarwan, who bowls three dot balls before Silva carves the fourth straight to Lara at cover. Bold change from the West Indies captain to bring the part-time leggie back, but it seems to have paid off.
A second over forSarwan. Anything under a run a ball would be a sterling effort from the legspinner.
Over 46: Dilshan pushes into the covers for a single, and Silva scampers two with a mishit club down the ground. Silva flicks to midwicket where Bravo lets the ball through his legs to turn one into two. Again, it's one of the West Indies' better fielders making the error. Silva whips a legside delivery away for a single, and Dilshan carves wide of third-man for another two. Good running from this pair, using the big outfield to their advantage. Dilshan clubs into the legside again, and again he is able to scamper back for two runs.
Sri Lanka 268/4 (RR: 5.83): Silva 23* (27), Dilshan 9* (6)
Bradshaw is set to bowl his final over of the innings.
Over 45: Dilshan flays the ball through the offisde and gets three as Chanderpaul makes a sprawling stop on the fence. Silva dabs the ball to third-man for a single, and Dilshan adds another on the legside. Silva flicks the final ball of the over to leg and runs hard to get back for two.
Sri Lanka 258/4 (RR: 5.73): Silva 18* (24), Dilshan 4* (3)
Tillakaratne Dilshan is the new batsman.
WICKET!
DPMD Jayawardene b Bravo 82 (113)
Great yorker first up from Bravo, and it's through Jayawardene's defences to knock back middle stump. Muted celebrations from the home side, who know they've let the opposition get far too many here.
Bravo is back into the attack for West Indies.
Over 44: A no-ball from Gayle is helped to leg for a single by Silva. The next ball comes off Jayawardene's pads for a leg-bye. Silva gets two with a drive through extra-cover. Gayle oversteps again - ridiculous off three paces - and is carved away for three runs. Jayawardene slog-sweeps into the legside, and Smith puts down a simple catch. This over rather neatly encapsulates how ragged West Indies have become. Jayawardene gets a single from the final ball.
Sri Lanka 251/3 (RR: 5.70): Jayawardene 82* (112), Silva 15* (22)
Over 43: Decent first over from Sarwan, conceding just three singles and then a two to Jayawardene's reverse sweep.
Sri Lanka 239/3 (RR: 5.56): Jayawardene 79* (109), Silva 9* (17)
Interesting change, ramnaresh Sarwan is into the attack.
Over 42: Three singles and then a two to Jayawardene as Gayle continues.
Sri Lanka 234/3 (RR: 5.57): Jayawardene 76* (107), Silva 8* (13)
Over 41: Silva pushes to Smith at point and scurries through for a single. Jayawardene adds another with a flick to fine-leg. Silva gets another single to midwicket before Jayawarden plays off his toes for two. End of an excellent spell from Powell.
Sri Lanka 229/3 (RR: 5.59): Jayawardene 73* (105), Silva 6* (9)
Powell to start his final over.
Over 40: Silva uses Gayle's pace to get the ball fine on the legside for a hard-run three, and Jayawardene adds a single to midwicket. The final ball of the over comes off Silva's boot as he tries to sweep, and the batsmen get through for a leg-bye.
Sri Lanka 224/3 (RR: 5.60): Jayawardene 70* (102), Silva 4* (6)
Over 39: Silva flicks off hist toes for a single to get off the mark, but Powell gets deserved applause. He's been much the best of the West Indian bowlers today.
Sri Lanka 219/3 (RR: 5.62): Jayawardene 69* (100), Silva 1* (2)
Chamara Silva is the new batsman for Sri Lanka.

ST Jayasuriya b Powell 115 (101)
Finally a breakthrough for the hosts. After three singles from the first three balls of Powell's over, Jayasuriya gets an inside edge on a drive and chops the ball into his stumps. A wonderful innings comes to an end, and Sanath can return to thedressing room for a well-deserved rest.
Over 38: Jayawardene works Gayle to leg for a single, and Jayasuriya gets a hard-run two with a sweep behind square. Gayle drops short again to Jayasuriya, who doesn't need a second invitation to pull that away for four more. Another sweep gets Jayasuriya a single, and Jayawardene hits down the ground for another to end the over. This innings seems to have been going on forever - West Indies' over-rate is abysmal.
Sri Lanka 215/2 (RR: 5.66): Jayasuriya 114* (99), Jayawardene 67* (98)
Over 37: Jayasuriya gets a single to third-man from the first ball of the over, and Jayawardene gets another single from a textbook forward defensive through mid-on. Jayasuriya, who seems to be tiring, scoops a drive just over the cover fielder for a single. The next ball comes off Jayawardene's pads for a leg-bye before Jayasuriya digs out a yorker for another single. Jayawardene bunts down the ground for another single to end the over. Decent over from Powell, just singles from it, but his team needs wickets.
Sri Lanka 206/2 (RR: 5.57): Jayasuriya 107* (95), Jayawardene 65* (96)
Over 36: Three singles from the first three balls of the over, and Jayawardene gets two with a flick through midwicket off the back foot from ball five to bring up 200 for Sri Lanka, who are heading towards a giant total on what is not the easiest pitch to bat on.
Sri Lanka 200/2 (RR: 5.56): Jayasuriya 104* (92), Jayawardene 63* (93)
Over 35: Jayawardene clips a full-toss off his pads for two runs and then lifts a classy drive over mid-on for four runs. He then gets very early on a pull shot and almost drags it onto his stumps but gets a single for it. Jayasuriya then carves the ball over point but it drops short of the man in the deep, and again a single is the result. Powell then loses control and a very high full-toss is called no-ball. He immediately apologigses to the batsman Jayawardene, who drives the next ball down the ground for a single. Jayasuriya keeps the strike with a single to deep cover from the final ball of the over.
Sri Lanka 195/2 (RR: 5.57): Jayasuriya 102* (90), Jayawardene 60* (89)
Powell is back into the attack for West Indies, with his side in desperate need of a wicket.
Over 34: Jayasuriya goes through to a brilliant century with a delicate sweep into the legside. He was so watchful early on, but has got through some testing bowling from West Indies to dominate as the innings progresses. Jayawardene pushes down the ground for a single. Despite the excitement of Jayasuriya's century, that's a tidy over from Gayle, just two singles from it.
Sri Lanka 184/2 (RR: 5.41): Jayasuriya 100* (88), Jayawardene 52* (84)
Jayasuriya 100: 86 balls, 9 x 4s, 4 x 6s
Over 33: Another maximum for Jayasuriya, heaved high over deep square-leg. Good comeback from Bradshaw, a yorker that has to be dug out. Jayasuriya then hits back down the ground, and Bradshaw deflects the ball into the stumps at the non-striker's end. It takes the third umpire an awful long time to make a decision, before Jayawardene gets the benefit of the doubt. He did well to get back there, as he had backed up quite a long way. Good effort from the skipper. The same thing almost happens again next ball, but this time the ball misses the stumps and Jayasuriya gets two runs. Good shot, but he gets a bit of deserved fortune next ball with a miscued chip over cover for two more. Jayasuriya moves to 99 and retains the strike with a single from the final ball of the over.
Sri Lanka 182/2 (RR: 5.52): Jayasuriya 99* (84), Jayawardene 51* (82)
Over 32: Another wide from Gayle down the legside, and Jayasuriyagets a single to midwicket next ball. Jayawardene gets another single, but Jayasuriya misses out with a sweep straight to short fine-leg. He does get one down the ground next ball though, and Jayawardene gets a boundary over midwicket to bring up a battling 50.
Sri Lanka 171/2 (RR: 5.26): Jayasuriya 88* (78), Jayawardene 51* (82)
Jayawardene 50: 81 balls, 1 x 4, 1 x 6
Over 31: Jayawardene hits down the ground for a single, and Jayasuriya gets a hard-run two with a late-cut to third-man's right, and then gets another big six with an awesome slog-sweep. He goers aerial again but gets just a single as deep square-leg fields. Expensive stuff from Bradshaw.
Sri Lanka 163/2 (RR: 5.26): Jayasuriya 86* (75), Jayawardene 46* (79)
Over 30: Jayasuriya gets a single to short fine-leg, and Jayawardene gets two more with a clever glance to third-man. He adds a single to midwicket to bring up the 150. Gayle bowls the 11th wide of the innings, and both batsmen add singles before the over ends.
Sri Lanka 153/2 (RR: 5.10): Jayasuriya 77* (72), Jayawardene 45* (76)
Gayle is back into the attack.
Drinks. Sri Lanka well on top here now, and Lara needs to make something happen. West Indies have gone very flat in the face of Jayasuriya's onslaught.
Over 29: Jayawardene works through midwicket for a single, and as Bradshaw strays down leg Jayasuriya just helps the ball on its way to the boundary. A push into the covers gets a single for Jayasuriya.
Sri Lanka 146/2 (RR: 5.03): Jayasuriya 75* (69), Jayawardene 41* (73)
Over 28: That's better, Mahela! Full ball from Bravo, and the Sri Lanka captain clubs it over long-on for six runs to bring up the 100 partnership. The next ball comes off the pads for a leg-bye, and Jayasuriya gloves a short ball down the legside for three runs. Jayawardene plays to third-man for a single.
Sri Lanka 140/2 (RR: 5.00): Jayasuriya 70* (65), Jayawardene 40* (71)
Over 27: Bradshaw, accurate as ever, starts with four dot balls before Jayawardene can get the ball into the legside for a single. Jayasuriya can't get anything from the final ball, so that's good stuff from Bradshaw.
Sri Lanka 129/2 (RR: 4.78): Jayasuriya 67* (62), Jayawardene 33* (68)
Bradshaw is back into the attack.
Over 26: Jayawardene works to leg for a single, and Jayasuriya gets another with a firm cut behind point. Jayawardene again nurdles the ball to leg to get another single, and Jayasuriya ruins a decent over from Bravo by lacing the final ball of it high over midwicket for four. Wonderful batting again from the vastly-experienced opener.
Sri Lanka 128/2 (RR: 4.92): Jayasuriya 67* (61), Jayawardene 32* (63)
Over 25: Jayawardene gets a single, and Jayasuriya gets an awesome six with an effortless pick-up over midwicket as Taylor looks on disbelievingly. That's Jayasuriya's 233rd ODI maximum - a record. Jayasuriya gets a single to midwicket, and Jayawardene has to be on his guard to dig out a textbook yorker from Taylor. He gets the final ball of the over off his hip for a single, and he is jjust gradually beginning to look more assured.
Sri Lanka 121/2 (RR: 4.84): Jayasuriya 62* (57), Jayawardene 30* (61)
Over 24: Jayawardene guides the ball to third-man for a single, and Jayasuriya repeats the shot with the same result. Two more singles, before Jayawardene gets three with a sweetly-timed clip through midwicket.
Sri Lanka 112/2 (RR: 4.67): Jayasuriya 55* (55), Jayawardene 28* (57)
Over 23: Two mix-ups in two balls from Jayawardene and Jayasuriya, but the end result is no runs and no harm done. Jayawardene does get two with a clipthrough square-leg. Another single ends the over, but Jayawardene needs to be doing more here to get Jayasuriya on strike.
Sri Lanka 105/2 (RR: 4.57): Jayasuriya 53* (53), Jayawardene 23* (53)
Over 22: Jayawardene clips into the legside and gets two runs after a bad misfield from Lara. A wide down the legside brings up Sri Lanka's 100. Jayawardene gets a single from an inside edge into the pads. Things are starting to unravel for West Indies here as an attempted bouncer flies way down the legside for another wide. A good ball from Bravo to end the over though, and Jayasuriya defends.
Sri Lanka 102/2 (RR: 4.64): Jayasuriya 53* (53), Jayawardene 20* (47)
The Gayle experiment ends after one awful over, and Bravo is into the attack in his place.
Over 21: Jayasuriya dabs to third-man for a single, and Jayawardene adds another to the same fielder. Jayasuriya takes a dicy single to Dwayne Bravo, but his wayward throw allows the batsmen to come back for a second run. Another good over from Taylor.
Sri Lanka 97/2 (RR: 4.62): Jayasuriya 53* (51), Jayawardene 17* (43)
The end of the powerplays. West Indies made a cracking start, but Jayasuriya has really cut loose in the last few overs, cashing in on the field restrictions.
Over 20: Rank bad ball from Gayle, dragging it very short and Jayasuriya helps himself to an easy four over square-leg. Another short ball is gloved down the legside for two more by Jayasuriya, who then gets two more with a sweep to long-leg. Gayle fires a wide down the legside, and this is a very poor start from the offspinner. Jayasuriya sweeps again for a single to raise another half-century for Jayasuriya. He had to battle early, but he has been destructive in recent overs. Poor first over from Gayle.
Sri Lanka 93/2 (RR: 4.65): Jayasuriya 50* (47), Jayawardene 16* (41)
Jayasuriya 50: 47 balls, 7 x 4s, 1 x 6
Chris Gayle is into the attack for West Indies for the final over of the powerplay. This is a gamble.
Over 19: Good work from Tayor, restoring some control for his captain with an accurate maiden over to a watchful Jayawardene.
Sri Lanka 83/2 (RR: 4.39): Jayasuriya 41* (42), Jayawardene 16* (40)
Lara is forced to bring Taylor back into the attack.
Over 18: Jayasuriya has decided it's time to dance here, slamming a four through cover and then a straight six gloriously back over the bowler's head. Smith bowls a slower ball, but Jayasuriya is ready for it and sweeps to the fine-leg fence for four more. He ends a stunning over of batting with a coruscating cut well in front of square that races across the damp turf for four.
Sri Lanka 83/2 (RR: 4.61): Jayasuriya 41* (42), Jayawardene 16* (34)
Over 17: Nice shot from Jayawardene, whipping through midwicket for three more, and Jayasuriya picks up just his second boundary with a pull shot played cleverly over the short fine-leg. Jayasuriya adds his third boundary with a booming drive over mid-off for a one-bounce four. Jayasuriya adds a single to gully dfrom the final ball of the over. Better over for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka 65/2 (RR: 3.88): Jayasuriya 23* (36), Jayawardene 16* (34)
Over 16: Jayawardene gets three from the final ball of a tight over with a pleasing drive through the covers. It would have been a boundary but for the sluggish nature of a still-damp outfield.
Sri Lanka 53/2 (RR: 3.31): Jayasuriya 14* (33), Jayawardene 13* (31)
West Indies take the final powerplay.
Drinks. West Indies look a different side to that which meekly surrendered against New Zealand. They've been right on top of things here, and have had much the better of these opening 15 overs, keeping runs down and picking up two key wickets.
Over 15: Jayawardene gets five with a thick inside edge into the pads. Jayasuriya calls his captain through for the single, and Ramdin's throw deflects off Jayawarden and away to the boundary for a bonus four that also brings up the 50. Jayasuriya blocks out the over.
Sri Lanka 50/2 (RR: 3.33): Jayasuriya 14* (33), Jayawardene 19* (25)
Over 14: Jayawardene plays deliberately to third-man for a single, and Jayasuriya plays a mirror-image next ball. Jayawardene gets a leg-bye into the legside, but it's still tidy stuff from West Indies.
Sri Lanka 45/2 (RR: 3.21): Jayasuriya 14* (30), Jayawardene 5* (22)
Powell's excellent opening burst is over, with Dwayne Smith into the attack.
Over 13: Another good over from Bradshaw, five dot balls followed by a single dabbed to third-man. Jayawardene is battling hard to try and regain some form here.
Sri Lanka 42/2 (RR: 3.23): Jayasuriya 13* (27), Jayawardene 4* (19)
Over 12: Jayawardene cuts wide of point for a single, and there's almost a mix-up as he tries to come back for a second run only to be sent back by Jayasuriya. Good over from Powell, and Sri Lanka still can't get away here.
Sri Lanka 41/2 (RR: 3.42): Jayasuriya 13* (27), Jayawardene 3* (13)
Over 11: The pressure is building here, and Jayasuriya has a swing and a miss outside off stump. Bradshaw just loses his shape and fires one down the legside, and Jayasuriya gets a single with a defensive push fine of gully. Jayawardene gets a single from the final ball of the over with a thick outside edge to third-man.
Sri Lanka 40/2 (RR: 3.64): Jayasuriya 13* (23), Jayawardene 2* (11)
West Indies take the second powerplay straight away.
Over 10: Powell bowls a probing maiden over at a nervy Jayawardene, who is bang out of form. Good stuff from Powell, keeping the pressure on the under-pressure Sri Lanka skipper.
Sri Lanka 37/2 (RR: 3.70): Jayasuriya 12* (19), Jayawardene 1* (9)
Over 9: Bradshaw's first ball to Jayawardene is a no-ball, and Sri Lanka's captain gets off the mark with a clip off the hip to deep square-leg for a single.
Sri Lanka 37/2 (RR: 4.11): Jayasuriya 12* (19), Jayawardene 1* (3)
There's a slight delay as a dog runs onto the field, to the delight of the crowd. I'm not sure it didn't do a bit of business at deep cover.
Jayawardene is the new batsman for Sri Lanka.

KC Sangakkara c Ramdin b Bradshaw 7 (10
Sangakkara gets two with a genuine edge just wide of second slip, but gets four with a crashing drive through point as Bradshaw offers width. The next ball is right on the money though, and this time the edge is thinner and straight through to the keeper. Great start for the hosts here.
Bradshaw is into the attack in place of Taylor.
Over 8: Jayasuriya fends at one outside the off stump and is fortunate to make no contact. A thick inside edge into the legside gets Jayasuriya a single, before a well-disguised slower ball from Powell is dug out by Sangakkara. Powell loses one down the legside for a wide, and Sangakkara scampers a single to mid-on from the final ball of the over.
Sri Lanka 29/1 (RR: 3.63): Jayasuriya 12* (19), Sangakkara 1* (6)
Over 7: Taylor and Powell have bowled well at Jayasuriya, but the shackles are broken as Taylor offers width outside the off stump and is pickedoff for a couple before a short ball is smashed over square-leg for four runs. Taylor then tries to bowl a bouncer, but it's far too short and rightly called wide. The next ball cannons off the pads for a leg-bye, and Sangakkara defends the final ball of the over.
Sri Lanka 26/1 (RR: 3.71): Jayasuriya 11* (17), Sangakkara 0* (2)
Over 6: Sangakkara solidly defends the final ball of a successful over from Powell, who has the happy knack of striking in his first spell in every game.
Sri Lanka 18/1 (RR: 2.80): Jayasuriya 5* (12), Sangakkara 0* (1)
Kumar Sangakkara is in ahead of skipper Mahela Jayawardene.
WICKET!
WU Tharanga b Powell 8 (24)
Tharanga finally breaks the shackles with a firm push back past the bowler for the first boundary of the day. The follow-up from Powell is a good one, a bouncer that Tharanga sways to avoid. The next ball is even better though, full straight and through Tharanga's defences, knocking middle and off stumps out of the ground.
Over 5: Jayasuriya chases a wide delivery from Taylor and gets a toe-edn down to thrir-man for a single. That would definitely have been called wide if Sanath hadn't managed to get the very end of his bat on it. Tharanga drives nicely into the covers, but straight to the fielder and he must be getting frustrated. He certainly seems to be, chasing a wide ball and making no contact. It's harshly called wide, but a false shot from Tharanga. The left-hander does manage to get a single from a defensive push into the covers, but the hosts can be pretty pleased with their start here.
Sri Lanka 14/0 (RR: 2.80): Tharanga 4* (19), Jayasuriya 5* (12)
Over 4: Good ball from Powell, but Jayasuriya is able to pinch a single after dropping the ball at his feet. Powell beats Tharanga, but it's a no-ball as the bowler overstepped. Tharanga is struggling early on here, and the rain is starting to fall again...
Sri Lanka 11/0 (RR: 2.75): Tharanga 3* (16), Jayasuriya 4* (9)
Over 3: Tharanga gets a thick outside edge to third-man for a single, and Jayasuriya adds another next ball. Taylor beats Tharanga with a good one outside off stump, and again the ball carries through nicely to Ramdin. Definitely a bit of pace in this track and West Indies have made a decent start.
Sri Lanka 9/0 (RR: 3.00): Tharanga 3* (10), Jayasuriya 3* (8)
Over 2: Powell starts with a big wide way outside Jayasuriya's off stump. Jayasuriya lets the next ball go through to Denesh Ramdin, who takes it at head height. Good carry here. More bounce next up from Powell, and Jayasuriya fends it fortuitously over gully for a single. Tharanga works nicely off his hip for a single. Powell appeals for lbw against Jayasuriya next ball, but it's pitched way outside leg.
Sri Lanka 7/0 (RR: 3.50): Tharanga 2* (5), Jayasuriya 2* (7)
Daren Powell to share the new ball for West Indies.
Over 1: Huge roar from the crowd as Taylor charges in to bowl the first ball of the game, which Tharanga defends. Tharanga turns the next ball to leg for a single to get Sri Lanka under way. Taylor bowls two bo0uncers to Jayasuriya, but both are legside, very high, and signalled wide. Jayasuriya works the next ball to midwicket to get off the mark, and Tharanga defends the final two balls of the over.
Sri Lanka 4/0 (RR: 4.00): Tharanga 1* (4), Jayasuriya 1* (2)
The returning Taylor will bowl the first over of the day.
The West Indies players are out on the field, followed by Sri Lanka's openers Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya. There's a better crowd in for this game, andthe West Indies team get a huge ovation.
West Indies have won the toss and elected to bowl first. Unsurprisingly, Jerome Taylor has returned to the side in place of Lendl Simmons, while Ian Bradshaw replaces Corey Collymore. For Sri Lanka, Dilhara Fernando replaces Farveez Maharoof.
Teams:
West Indies:
CH Gayle, S Chanderpaul, RR Sarwan, MN Samuels, BC Lara (capt), DJ Bravo, D Ramdin (wkt), DR Smith, DB Powell, JE Taylor, IDR Bradshaw.
Sri Lanka:
WU Tharanga, ST Jayasuriya, KC Sangakkara (wkt), DPMD Jayawardene (capt), LPC Silva, TM Dilshan, RP Arnold, CRD Fernando, WPUJC Vaas, SL Malinga, M Muralitharan
1458 BST The toss will be going ahead as planned.
1457 BST Three minutes from the toss, and there's more rain in the air. No official word yet, but the groundstaff are hovering with the covers. This could be one of those days.
1445 BST The groundstaff in Guyana must have a bigger sponge at their disposal than their Antiguan counterparts. The rain has stopped and play is apparently due to start at 1515 BST. The toss will take place just 15 minutes before play starts, which seems a bit tight.
Still raining pretty hard in Guyana. Given that we had a five-hour delay in bright sunshine in Antigua yesterday, you'll forgive us for being none too optimistic at this stage.
Brian Lara and West Indies desperately need two points against Sri Lanka to get their Super Eight campaign back on track, but rain is currently holding things up in Guyana. More updates when we have them.
