commentary: west indies v pakistan
Naved-ul-Hasan b Bravo 11
By Dave Tickner
West Indies (241 for nine) beat Pakistan (187 all out) by 54 runs
Easy win for West Indies, who were in control for most of Pakistan's innings after taking a wicket in the first over. In both innings the hosts were indebted to Smith, who gave impetus to the batting before snuffing out the threat of Pakistan's high-class middle order by removing both Yousuf and Inzamam in quick succession. On this evidence, the hosts are certainly a genuine threat in this tournament, but the question is whether they can maintain this high performance level.

Shoaib Malik c Chanderpaul b Collymore 62 (54)
Malik turns down a single from the first ball of the over, and chips the second straight up in the air to give Chanderpaul a simple catch. It's all over, and Collymore has a deserved wicket to end the match.
Over 47: Kaneria is in for the last rites of this innings, with Bravo taking two wickets with the last two balls of a cracking over.
Pakistan 187/9 (RR: 3.98): Malik 62* (52), Kaneria 0* (0)
Pakistan need 55 runs to win from 18 balls at 18.33 runs per over.

Umar Gul c & b Bravo 0 (1)
Quite brilliant from Bravo, nonchalantly sticking out his left hand to take a stunning return catch as Gul drives his first delivery back at the bowler. Bravo has been a real livewire in the field, taking a couple of stunning catches.
Umar Gul is in at number 10.

Iftikhar Anjum c Lara b Bravo 11 (18)
Malik chips down the ground for a single, and Iftikhar adds another couple with a cut to deep point. A hard shot back down the ground is brilliantly stopped by a diving Bravo in his followthrough. Iftikhar then chips to Lara at mid-off who holds a simple catch.
Over 46: Malik smacks the first ball down the ground but gets only a single to long-off. Iftikhar smears the second ball into the legside for another single. Malik tries to find the gap at cover, but Sarwan makes a tumbling save and keeps it to a single again. Iftikhar adds another single from ball four, but West Indies have no problem with singles now. Malik gets the enxt one to the boundary though, clipping it fine of the fine-leg fielder who is inside the circle. ANother single to end the over for Malik, who has played a great innings with little support.
Pakistan 184/7 (RR: 4.00): Malik 61* (50), Iftikhar 9* (15)
Pakistan need 58 runs to win from 24 balls at 14.50 runs per over.
Collymore is back into the attack as Taylor has finished his 10 overs.
Over 45: Malik clips into the legside for a single, but Iftikhar can get nothing from the next two balls. He does get the fourth ball to long-on for a single, but that's good bowling from Bravo. Malik chips over the infield for another single. Iftikhar chips over point and runs hard to get back for a second run.
Pakistan 175/7 (RR: 3.89): Malik 54* (45), Iftikhar 7* (14)
Pakistan need 67 runs to win from 30 balls at 13.40 runs per over.
Over 44: Malik clips the ball to leg for a single to bring up a brilliant 50, albeit in a losing cause. Iftikhar adds a single with a pull to deep square-leg. Malik plays an extraordinary shot into the legside, more akin to a topspin backhand and gets a single. Iftikhar gets another single down the ground. Malik gets a single down the ground to end Taylor's work, and he's done a fine job for his side, as have all the West Indies bowlers.
Pakistan 170/7 (RR: 3.86): Malik 52* (43), Iftikhar 4* (10)
Pakistan need 72 runs to win from 36 balls at 12.00 runs per over.
Malik 50: 41 balls, 5 x 4s, 1 x 6
Over 43: Malik is giving this a go, smashing the ball back over Bravo's head for a one-bounce four. He tries to cut the next ball but makes no contact. Malik launches the next ball over midwicket, but a diving Gayle makes an astonishing stop but just touches the rope with his foot. Great stop, but it counts for nothing. Malik smacks the next ball to long-off for a single, and he's taken nine from the first four balls of the over. The next ball is wide down the legside. Iftikhar pulls a full-toss over square-leg for a single. Malik gets another single from the final ball of the over to retain the strike. Twelve from it, and that's what Pakistan require.
Pakistan 165/7 (RR: 3.84): Malik 49* (40), Iftikhar 2* (7)
Pakistan need 77 runs to win from 42 balls at 11.00 runs per over.
Over 42: Malik flicks the ball to leg for a single, and Iftikhar just gets off the mark after digging out a yorker and eventually deciding to go through for the single after a mid-pitch discussion. Malik still hasn't given up here, smashing the next ball high over midwicket for six runs. Malik bunts the next ball down the ground for a single. Taylor ends the over with a bouncer that strikes Iftikhar in the ribs. Good bowling, surprising the tailender with the short ball.
Pakistan 153/7 (RR: 3.64): Malik 39* (35), Iftikhar 1* (6)
Pakistan need 89 runs to win from 48 balls at 11.13 runs per over.
Over 41: Iftikhar digs out a clever slower ball from Bravo. Another yorker crashes into the pads but is going down leg. The final ball of the over is another perfect yorker, and Iftikhar cannot get it away.
Pakistan 144/7 (RR: 3.51): Malik 31* (31), Iftikhar 0* (4)
Pakistan need 98 runs to win from 54 balls at 10.89 runs per over.
Iftikhar is the new batsman at number nine for Pakistan.

Rana Naved-ul-Hasan b Bravo 11 (29)
Malik gets Bravo's first ball ball down the ground for a single, but Naved's attempted slog at the next ball ends with his stumps in an undignified mess.
Bravo is back into the attack with Smith having completed his spell.
Over 40: Smith almost adds a run out to his day's work as Naved takes a very risky single. Taylor pitches one up into Malik's slot, and he smashes it over midwicket for four runs. Malik gets a single to deep square-leg, but Naved just can't get Malik back on strike anf that's been the problem.
Pakistan 143/6 (RR: 3.58): Malik 30* (30), Naved 11* (28)
Pakistan need 99 runs to win from 10 overs at 9.90 runs per over.
Over 39: Smith completes his stunning spell. Five runs come from his final over, but he has surely secured the man-of-the-match awatd after adding three wickets to his explosive batting.
Pakistan 137/6 (RR: 3.45): Malik 25* (28), Naved 10* (24)
Pakistan need 105 runs to win from 11 overs at 9.55 runs per over.
Over 38: Naved struggles to get the ball away, taking until the fourth ball of the over to get a single and getting Malik on strike. He drives down the ground for another single, but West Indies are happy to give him those. Naved blocks the final ballof the over, and the game is almost up for Pakistan.
Pakistan 131/6 (RR: 3.45): Malik 23* (26), Naved 6* (20)
Pakistan need 111 runs to win from 12 overs at 9.25 runs per over.
Over 37: Smith continues to trouble the batsmen, as Malik gets a single from the first ball of the over before Naved is almost trapped lbw before finally adding a second run in the over from the final delivery.
Pakistan 129/6 (RR: 3.49): Malik 22* (25), Naved 5* (15)
Pakistan need 113 runs to win from 13 overs at 8.70 runs per over.
Over 36: Malik gets a single, and Naved gets another three balls later, taking a quick run from a push into the legside. Malik gets a single to end the over and the job gets harder for the men in green.
Pakistan 127/6 (RR: 3.53): Malik 21* (24), Naved 4* (10)
Pakistan need 115 runs to win from 14 overs at 8.21 runs per over.
Taylor is back into the attack after five good overs with the new ball.
Over 35: Malik gets one from the first ball of the over, and Naved gets another with a top-edged driv to third-man. Malik drives into the covers for a single, and Naved works the next ball off his legs for another, but Pakistan need more than singles here. Malik gets a fifth single from the final ball of the over, but the requireed rate climbs with every ball at the moment.
Pakistan 124/6 (RR: 3.54): Malik 19* (21), Naved 3* (7)
Pakistan need 118 runs to win from 15 overs at 7.87 runs per over.
Over 34: Malik works his first ball into the legside for a single, and Naved is then comprehensively beaten by a Bravo slower ball. He does get off the mark with a drive to deep cover. Malik gets another single to end the over.
Pakistan 119/6 (RR: 3.50): Malik 16* (17), Naved 1* (5)
Pakistan need 123 runs to win from 16 overs at 7.69 runs per over.
Over 33: Naved survives the hat-trick ball, but that is surely the over that earns West Indies victory in this World Cup curtain-raiser.
Pakistan 116/6 (RR: 3.52): Malik 14* (15), Naved 0* (1)
Pakistan need 126 runs to win from 17 overs at 7.41 runs per over.
Naved is the new batsman, facing a hat-trick ball.

Kamran Akmal c Bravo b Smith 0 (1)
Two in two balls as Akmal drives loosely into the gully where Bravo takes a cracking diving catch.
Akmal is the new batsman for Pakistan.
The players take drinks at the fall of that wicket, with Pakistan facing a massive task to turn this game round now.
WICKET!
Inzamam-ul-Haq lbw b Smith 36 (65):
That could be terminal for Pakistan. After some good batting from Malik, coming down the track and hitting cleanly over the top of mid-off for four before pulling to midwicket for a single, Inzamam is trapped on the crease by a ball that Taufel judges would have gone on to hit the top of the off stump. A decision Hawk-Eye agrees with.
Over 32: Malik and Inzamam get a single apiece from the first two balls of the over. Malik tries to force the enxt ball through the covers but can't pierce the field. The next ball passes close to the outside edge, getting Bravo briefly excited. But a dot ball is still a good bal at this stage. Malik guides a single to third-man. Just three singles from a tidy over from Bravo.
Pakistan 111/4 (RR: 3.47): Inzamam 36* (63), Malik 9* (13)
Pakistan need 131 runs to win from 18 overs at 7.28 runs per over.
Over 31: Three dot balls at the start of Smith's over take the required rate above seven before Malik gets the ball to midwicket for a single, a shot repeated next ball by Inzamam. Malik works the final ball of the over through midwicket for another single. Since Inzamam's arrival at the crease, there have been no twos or threes.
Pakistan 108/4 (RR: 3.48): Inzamam 35* (61), Malik 7* (9)
Pakistan need 134 runs to win from 19 overs at 7.05 runs per over.
Over 30: The 100 comes up for Pakistan as Inzamam eases down the ground for a single. Malik drives his first ball hard but straight to mid-on, but he gets full value for his next shot a ferocious square-cut that beats the man on the fence. Malik gets another single from the final ball of the over with a jab to third-man.
Pakistan105/4 (RR: 3.50): Inzamam 34* (60), Malik 5* (4)
Pakistan need 137 runs to win from 20 overs at 6.85 runs per over.
Over 29: Malik is the new batsman, and he has a big job to do for his side in this gripping World Cup opener.
Pakistan 99/4 (RR: 3.41): Inzamam 33* (58), Malik 0* (0)
Pakistan need 143 runs to win from 21 overs at 6.81 runs per over.
WICKET!
Mohammad Yousuf c Ramdin b Smith 37 (72) Big breakthrough to end an excellent over from Smith. Yousuf hits the first ball through midwicket for a single, and Inzamam adds another to third-man. Yousuf walks down the track to Smith and almost gets bowled round his legs before missing an attempted cut. The last ball bounces a bit more than expected, and this time Yousuf does get a thin edge through to the keeper, and that could be a decisive moment in this game.
Over 28: Two great shots from these batsmen, but both earn just a single. First Yousuf drives well in front of Samuels at deep cover but saunters one, and then a hard cut behind point from Inzamam is well stopped by Samuels again. Yousuf gets a single to third-man that almost causes problems when a second is briefly contemplated, while Inzamam flicks to leg for another simple run. Yousuf gets another run from the final ball of the over, and West Indies are guilty of letting this game drift aimlessly at the moment.
Pakistan 97/3 (RR: 3.46): Yousuf 36* (69), Inzamam 32* (56)
Pakistan need 145 runs to win from 22 overs at 6.59 runs per over.
Over 27: Inzamam eases Smith down the ground for a single, and Yousuf gets the next ball to third-man for another single. Inzamam glances another single behind square on the offside. Yousuf gets a drive through the infield at cover, and he collects two runs. The West Indies attack is just looking a little samey here, and it may be time to give one of the spinners a chance. Six from the over without a risk being taken.
Pakistan 92/3 (RR: 3.41): Yousuf 33* (65), Inzamam 30* (54)
Pakistan need 150 runs to win from 23 overs at 6.52 runs per over.
Over 26: Yousuf and Inzamam exchange singles early in the over, and Yousuf works to midwicket for another from the fifth ball. Inzamam pulls the last ball of Bravo's over to long-leg for a single.
Pakistan 86/3 (RR: 3.31): Yousuf 29* (61), Inzamam 28* (52)
Pakistan need 156 runs to win from 24 overs at 6.50 runs per over.
Bravo is into the attack for West Indies, replacing the excellent Collymore.
Over 25: With Smith bowling, it's Bravo fielding at backward point, and he makes a brilliant stop to deny Inzamam runs from a square drive. Inzamam gets the next ball past Bravo for a single though. Yousuf wanders across his stumps to get the ball into the legside for a single. Just two from the over for Pakistan.
Pakistan 82/3 (RR: 3.28): Yousuf 27* (57), Inzamam 26* (48)
Pakistan need 160 runs to win from 25 overs at 6.40 runs per over.
Over 24: Yousuf drives to deep cover for a single, and Inzamam plays a good pick-up off off stump over midwicket for four runs. He definitely wants to get on with things here. Nothing wrong with the delivery, but violently dispatched. Almost joy for West Indies as Inzamam misses an attempted cut, the ball passing just under the bottom edge. A top-edged pull from the final ball of the over lands safely on the legside, and Inzamam will keep the strike with that single.
Pakistan 80/3 (RR: 3.33): Yousuf 26* (56), Inzamam 25* (45)
Pakistan need 162 runs to win from 26 overs at 6.23 runs per over.
Over 23: Yousuf gets a single to third-man, and Inzamam - batting in a cap now - tries tohoik the ball to midwicket twice. He gets nothing for the first, and just a single for the second. Yousuf gets a single to midwicket. Just three runs from the over, despite Inzamam's increasingly aggressive intent.
Pakistan 74/3 (RR: 3.22): Yousuf 25* (55), Inzamam 20* (40)
Pakistan need 168 runs to win from 27 overs at 6.22 runs per over.
Over 22: Yousuf gets a single from the second ball of the over, and Inzamam gets another run with a wild drive that comes off the outside edge. Yousuf pushes down the ground for a simple single as Collymore tries some variations. Inzamam works to midwicket for a single, and Yousuf collects a fifth single from the over with a thick inside edge into the legside.
Pakistan 71/3 (RR: 3.23): Yousuf 23* (52), Inzamam 19* (37)
Pakistan need 171 runs to win from 28 overs at 6.11 runs per over.
At this stage of their innings, West Indies were 69 for two. So it's fairly close at this stage, although West Indies did end their innings very powerfully.
Over 21: Inzamam tries to pull Smith's first delivery, but gets onlya bottom edge into the pads. The next two deliveries are blocked, and the required rate tops six runs an over for the first time. Inzamam does get a single from the fifth ball with a firm push into the covers, and Yousuf works the final ball of the over to leg for a single, but just two runs off Smith's first over. He'll settle for that.
Pakistan 66/3 (RR: 3.14): Yousuf 20* (48), Inzamam 17* (34)
Pakistan need 176 runs to win from 29 overs at 6.07 runs per over.
Smith is into the attack with his medium-pacers. He did a very useful job with the bat late in his side's innings. Now he has a job to do with the ball.
Over 20: Last over of the powerplay, and Yousuf blocks the first three deliveries. He works the next to midwicket, but straight to the fielder and again there's no run. Maiden over from Collymore to end the powerplay, and there were just signs toward the end of that over of the pressure building on Yousuf.
Pakistan 64/3 (RR: 3.20): Yousuf 19* (47), Inzamam 16* (29)
Pakistan need 178 runs to win from 30 overs at 5.93 runs per over.
Over 19: Powell may be tiring in his 10th over off the reel, and Yousuf guides one ball behind square on the legside for a single before Inzamam crashes a boundary through point off the back foot. Inzamam gets a very iffy single with a push to mid-on. Lara can't pick up cleanly, but it would've been interesting if he had. Yousuf works to midwicket for a safer single, but even that one feels somehow risky when these two are involved. Powell's excellent spell comes to an end. He's bowled straight through and picked up two vital early wickets for his side.
Pakistan 64/3 (RR: 3.37): Yousuf 19* (41), Inzamam 16* (29)
Pakistan need 178 runs to win from 31 overs at 5.74 runs per over.
Over 18: Yousuf gets four with an elegant drive through the covers after blocking the first four deliveries of Collymore's over. The sixth is guided to third-man for a single to keep the strike.
Pakistan 57/3 (RR: 3.17): Yousuf 17* (39), Inzamam 11* (25)
Pakistan need 185 runs to win from 32 overs at 5.78 runs per over.
Over 17: Powell continues, and there's almost a run out straight away as Inzamam drives hard into the covers. The batsmen almost meet in the middle for a chat before deciding to go back to where they started. Inzamam wisely decides this running lark is too risky, and instead hammers consecutive glorious boundaries - the first a swivel and pull through square-leg, the second a cover-drive lifteddirectly from the coaching manual to raise his side's 50. Inzamam blocks the next two deliveries before failing to find the gap with another pleasing drive, but this is a higher score than he managed in the whole of the last World Cup.
Pakistan 52/3 (RR: 3.06): Yousuf 12* (33), Inzamam 11* (25)
Pakistan need 190 runs to win from 33 overs at 5.76 runs per over.
That's drinks at Sabina Park, and they'll taste sweeter if you're a West Indies fan. The hosts are well on top here, picking up three early wickets and strangling the run-rate to boot. Pakistan's required rate is moving quickly towards a run a ball, and that will be no easy task with three men already back in the pavilion. This is the crucial partnership you feel.
Over 16: Collymore is in a fine spell here, forcing Yousuf to block the first three balls before beating the bat with the fourth, one that goes through nicely to the keeper. The fifth is blocked again, and when the sixth is played to mid-on Collymore chalks up another maiden.
Pakistan 44/3 (RR: 2.75): Yousuf 12* (33), Inzamam 3* (19)
Pakistan need 198 runs to win from 34 overs at 5.82 runs per over.
With just seven runs coming in the last powerplay, Lara again surprises no-one by taking the third and final powerplay instantly.
Over 15: Yousuf nurdles to midwicket for a single, and again Inzamam is unable to get the ball away as Powell keeps the ball up to the bat on a good line. The run-rate required is climbing all the time here, already closing in on a run a ball.
Pakistan 44/3 (RR: 2.93): Yousuf 12* (27), Inzamam 3* (19)
Pakistan need 198 runs to win from 35 overs at 5.68 runs per over.
Over 14: Collymore keeps probing away on and around Inzamam's off stump, and completes a maiden over that cranks up the pressure on Pakistan another notch or two.
Pakistan 43/3 (RR: 3.07): Yousuf 11* (26), Inzamam 3* (14)
Pakistan need 199 runs to win from 36 overs at 5.53 runs per over.
Over 13: Inzamam wanders across his stumps to work Powell into the legside for a single. Yousuf drives hard into the covers where Sarwan fields. Some of the crowd think that's a catch, but it was hammered straight into the turf. Powell draws Yousuf into an injudicious and indiscriminate waft outside off stump. No contact mae, and Yousuf is unimpressed with himself. Another excellent over from Powell, and Pakistan are definitely under the cosh at Sabina Park. The importance of this partnership cannot be overstated.
Pakistan 43/3 (RR: 3.31): Yousuf 11* (26), Inzamam 3* (9)
Pakistan need 199 runs to win from 37 overs at 5.38 runs per over.
Over 12: Collymore's first ball is down the legside and signalled wide by Bowden, who then rightly turns down a confident appeal for leg before from the second. It was hitting the stumps, but hit Inzamam just outside the line. Another full ball hits Inzamam on the pads, but this time it's sliding down leg. Very clear what West Indies' plan is to Inzamam early in his innings. Inzamam gets a single with a deliberate glide to third-man. Yousuf solidly blocks the final ball of the over, and Pakistan need exactly 200 more.
Pakistan 42/3 (RR: 3.50): Yousuf 11* (21), Inzamam 2* (7)
Pakistan need 200 runs to win from 38 overs at 5.26 runs per over.
First bowling change for West Indies as Collymore comes on in place of Taylor.
Over 11: Inzamam gets off the mark with a nicely played flick to midwicket, but the batsmen then almost get in a muddle before eventually turning down the easy second run that was onoffer. Powell ends a successful over with a vicious lifter that fizzes past Yousuf's grille. Top over, and West Indies are going along well here.
Pakistan 40/3 (RR: 3.64): Yousuf 11* (20), Inzamam 1* (2)
Pakistan need 202 runs to win from 39 overs at 5.18 runs per over.
Inzamam joins Yousuf in the middle. Two great players, but the threat of a run out always looms when they're together.
WICKET!
Mohammad Hafeez c Lara b Powell 11 (28)
Hafeez deflects the ball fine on the legside, and Taylor gets around well from fine-leg to cut off the boundary and save three runs. Yousuf gets a quick single with a thick inside edge into the legside. Hafeez then tries to go over the top, but succeeds only in clipping the ball straight to mid-on, where Lara takes a regulation catch. Pakistan in real trouble here.
The first powerplay has gone very well for the hosts, and there's no surprise to see Taufel indicate that Lara has taken the second powerplay immediately.
Over 10: Yousuf gets two bonus runs as a drive to mid-off is misfielded by Lara. A good slower ball from Taylor almost gets the better of Yousuf, hitting him on pads but missing leg. Just those two runs from a tidy over.
Pakistan 37/2 (RR: 3.70): Hafeez 10* (26), Yousuf 10* (18)
Pakistan need 205 runs to win from 40 overs at 5.13 runs per over.
Over 9: Yousuf works the ball off his legs for a single, and Hafeez adds another three balls later. Powell bowls a long-hop outside off stump that Yousuf hammers behind point, but Smith makes a fine diving stop to save a certain boundary. Yousuf keeps the strike with a well-judged quick single from the last ball of the over.
Pakistan 35/2 (RR: 3.89): Hafeez 10* (26), Yousuf 8* (12)
Pakistan need 207 runs to win from 41 overs at 5.05 runs per over.
Over 8: Yousuf guides the ball to third-man for a single. Hafeez blocks the ball behind point but can't get the single he's looking for. Hafeez lets the final two balls go through to the keeper, leaving a rather neat equation. Pakistan's run-rate is exactly 4.00, and the required rate exactly 5.00.
Pakistan 32/2 (RR: 4.00): Hafeez 9* (23), Yousuf 6* (9)
Pakistan need 210 runs to win from 42 overs at 5.00 runs per over.
Over 7: Hafeez hammers another glorious on-drive to the fence. If anything, it's even better than the last as it races away. Powell has a good response, beating Hafeez outside the off stump with a ball that just shapes away a touch. The next ball is on leg stump, and Hafeez is slightly annoyed to only get it away for a leg-bye. Yousuf works the final ball of the over to midwicket for a single.
Pakistan 31/2 (RR: 4.43): Hafeez 9* (19), Yousuf 5* (7)
Pakistan need 211 runs to win from 43 overs at 4.91 runs per over.
Over 6: Yousuf guides his first ball to point. No runs, but an instant show of his class as he eases onto the back foot to play that shot. Yousuf does find the gap with a forcing shot through the covers off the back foot later in the over, and gets off the mark with two. Two more follow from the last ball of the over as Yousuf clips it through midwicket.
Pakistan 25/2 (RR: 4.17): Hafeez 5* (14), Yousuf 4* (6)
Pakistan need 217 runs to win from 44 overs at 4.93 runs per over.
Over 5: Powell is right on target again, forcing Hafeez to block the first three balls of the over, but his attempt to whip the fourth ball through midwicket finds the fielder. But the next ball is gloriously driven through mid-on by Hafeez for four. One of the hardest shots inthe game, and played in classical fashion there.
Pakistan 21/2 (RR: 4.20): Hafeez 5* (14), Yousuf 0* (0)
Pakistan need 221 runs to win from 45 overs at 4.91 runs per over.
Over 4: Mohammad Yousuf is the new batsman, and he comes in with his team under real pressure after losing two early wickets.
Pakistan 17/2 (RR: 4.25): Hafeez 1* (8), Yousuf 0* (0)
Pakistan need 225 runs to win from 46 overs at 4.89 runs per over.
WICKET!
Younis Khan c Ramdin b Taylor 9 (13)
Huge wicket for West Indies to end an eventful over. The first ball of Taylor's second over flicks off Hafeez's pads for a leg-bye. Younis gets his second boundary with a beautiful drive through mid-off as the bowler just overpitches. Younis punches the next ball into the midwicket region for a single, and Hafeez gets off the mark with one to third-man. Then Younis takes on a short ball way outside the off stump, and in trying to hook it into the legside succeeds only in edging through to Ramdin who takes his second catch in the first four overs.
Over 3: Powell starts the over with a cracker that moves away, beats Younis and flies through to Ramdin at head height. Powell seems to have got the radar under control now, working Younis hard outside off stump and racking up a second maiden in succession for West Indies.
Pakistan 10/1 (RR: 3.33): Hafeez 0* (6), Younis 4* (9)
Pakistan need 232 runs to win from 47 overs at 4.94 runs per over.
Over 2: Hafeez plays inside the line allowing taylor's first ball to go through low to Ramdin. He repeats the shot next ball, but this one carries through rather better to the keeper. Hafeez eventually gets bat on ball to the fourth ball he faces, but Taylor completes a maiden over to start his spell.
Pakistan 10/1 (RR: 5.00): Hafeez 0* (6), Younis 4* (3)
Pakistan need 232 runs to win from 48 overs at 4.83 runs per over.
Taylor will share the new ball. His first over will have to go some to top Powell's.
Over 1: The fireworks continue as Younis cuts his first ball to third-man for four runs before playing and missing at the next one.
Pakistan 10/1 (RR: 10.00): Hafeez 0* (0), Younis 4* (3)
Pakistan need 232 runs to win from 49 overs at 4.73 runs per over.
Younis Khan is in at number three for Pakistan.

Imran Nazir c Ramdin b Powell 6 (3)
Astonishing start to the innings as Nazir cuts his second delivery high over backward point for six runs before nicking his third ball through to Ramdin, who takes a regulation catch. Explosive stuff.
Powell will open the bowling for West Indies.
Nazir and Hafeez are out to open the batting for Pakistan as they chase down 242 for victory.
West Indies: 241 for nine (50 overs)
Pakistan need 242 to win at 4.84 runs per over
West Indies had a dreadful start, and after a mid-innings collapse looked likely to fall well short of a competitive score. But an explosive finish has got them up to a score that is probably somewhere around par and will certainly take some getting for Pakistan. Could be a cracking game this...
Over 50: Powell digs out a yorker and scurries through for a single. Collymore works the next ball to midwicket and gets a single and another bonus run as Pakistan foolishly go for the run out. Collymore ends the innings in fine style, launching the ball high over long-on for six runs!
West Indies 241/9 (RR: 4.82): Powell 1* (1), Collymore 8* (2)
Corey Collymore is the last man in for West Indies. Again the batsmen crossed, so he's not on strike.

DJBravo c Naved b Iftikhar 16 (17)
Bravo smashes a four through the covers, but trying to repeat the shot he gets only a top edge to Naved at third-man who takes a safe catch.
Daren Powell the new batsman at the non-striker's end.

JE Taylor run out (Iktikhar) 2 (4)
Right idea from Taylor, but he can onoly dig out an excellent yorker from Iftikhar straight back to the bowler, who turns and throws down the stumps as Taylor sets off on a single to get Bravo back on strike. Run out by yards, but Taylor has at least got the proper batter on strike with five balls still to go. Fine bowling and fielding from Iftikhar though.
Iftikhar is back into the attack to bowl the final over of the innings. He's got great figures of 2/31 from nine, so let's hope he doesn't spoil them here
Over 49: Bravo gets a single to third-man, and taylor digs out a yorker from his first ball. Taylor pushes the next ball to cover for a simple single, and Umar Gul sticks the next one down the legside. It's a wide, and the batsmen get through for an additional run as Akmal makes a complete mess of throwing with his gauntlet on. Taylor gets a single from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 228/7 (RR: 4.65): Bravo 12* (15), Taylor 2* (3)
Jerome Taylor is the new batsman, but he won't be on strike as the batsmen crossed.

DR Smith c Inzamam b Umar Gul 32 (15)
Bravo works to leg for a quick single to get Smith back on strike. He hits a slower ball straight up in the air and Inzamam takes a simple catch at cover. But a great innings from Smith to give real impetus to this West Indies innings.
Over 48: Naved starts with a slower ball that Smith helps into the legside for a single. Bravo can't get the next ball away, but gets across his stumps to flick the ball wide of short fine-leg and away to the boudnary. Clever batting from Bravo there. Naved follows up with a fine yorker that Bravo somehow digs out to third-man for a single. But the next ball is woeful - a leg-stump full-toss with fine-leg up in the circle. Four easy runs for Smith, who has made a telling contribution here. The final ball is a bit of a slower ball, and Smith waits and whacks it out of the park over midwicket. Top shot, and he's absolutely racing along is Smith.
West Indies 222/6 (RR: 4.63): Bravo 10* (13), DR Smith 32* (14)
Naved is back into the attack.
Over 47: Smith forces into the covers for a single as Nazir can only parry. Bravo hits down the ground for another single next ball, and Smith adds a brilliant boundary next ball, placing a drive wide of cover and beating the man on the fence. He tries to hoik the next ball over the legside but makes no contact. But he gets another boundary from the next ball as Umar Gul again drops short and gets uppercut over the slips to the fence. Not great death bowling this from Gul. Smith keeps the strike with a quick single from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 206/6 (RR: 4.38): Bravo 5* (10), DR Smith 21* (11)
Umar Gul is back into the attack. He bowled a fine spell at the top of the innings, and he now has a job to do at the death.
Over 46: Smith gets a single with a thick inside eedge onto the boot. Bravo misses a sweep and gets through for a leg-bye as Pakistan concentrate on leg-before appeals. A quite glorious shot from Smith follows, slog-swept high onto the mound for six runs. He clips tyhe next ball to midwicket and runs very hard to get back for a second. Might-ve been close if Akmal had gathered cleanly, but he didn't, and Smith gets another single to end the over and keep the strike.
West Indies 195/6 (RR: 4.24): Bravo 4* (9), DR Smith 11* (6)
Over 45: Smithgets under way first ball with a flick to midwicket. Good comeback over from Kaneria.
West Indies 184/6 (RR: 4.09): Bravo 4* (8), DR Smith 1* (1)
Dwayne Smith is the new batsman, with West Indies collapsing worryingly.

Kaneria is back into the attack.
Over 44: Denesh Ramdin is the new batsman for the West Indies.

MN Samuels c Malik b Hafeez 63 (70)
Bravo has to wait until the third ball to get off strike with a single, but Samuels needs only one ball to find the boundary with a delicately played late cut that gives the fielders no chance. But he perishes two balls later, lobbing the ball into the air and into the safe hands of Malik at long-on looking for a maximum. Problems now for West Indies, who have lost the man they hoped could get the run-rate moving quickly in the right direction.
Over 43: Bravo misses out on one cut, but gets a single from the next. Samuels can't get the next ball away, but Malik sticks the next one down the legside, allowing Samuels to just help it on its way to the boundary for four easy runs. Samuels tries to cut the last ball fine, but can't beat the fielder. Bravo almost gets himself in a mess after charging down in search of a single, but he's able to turn and get safely back.
West Indies 176/4 (RR: 4.09): Samuels 59* (67), Bravo 2* (4)
Over 42: Bravo is under way first ball, working to midwicket for a single. Samuels pushes one ball into the covers and one to midwicket and gets no runs for either. A quicker ball from Hafeez down the legside deflects off something, but it's not bat or gloves so Samuels survives despite a cracking take from Akmal. Samuels works the final ball through midwicket, and it's well placed to get two runs.
West Indies 171/4 (RR: 4.07): Samuels 55* (64), Bravo 1* (1)
Dwayne Bravo is the new batsman, and he's got nine overs to help West Indies up to a decent total.

BC Lara c Kamran Akmal b Hafeez 37 (56)
Crucial wicket for Pakistan, as Lara tries to sweep Hafeez from outside off stump but only gets a bottom edge that is brilliantly caught by Akmal. That's a sebnack for the hosts, who were begining to motor.
Over 41: Samuels brings up the first 50 of the tournament in style with a glorious straight six. He adds a single from the third ball of the over and Lara adds another boundary with a cleverly played sweep very fine on the legside. The final ball of a productive over for the West Indies is worked to midwicket for another single.
West Indies 168/3 (RR: 4.10): Samuels 53* (60), Lara 37* (55)
Samuels 50: 58 balls, 3 x 4s, 3 x 6s
Over 40: Lara slaps a drive into the covers for a single, and Samuels gets another with a push down the ground. Lara sweeps to fine-leg, but more poor running means it's just a single. Samuels pushes the last ball of the over down the ground again for another single as West Indies prepare for a final 10-over assault.
West Indies 156/3 (RR: 3.90): Samuels 45* (57), Lara 32* (52)
Over 39: Samuels gets a single, and then Lara gets a life as he tries to guide the ball to third-man but gets a thin edge that Akmal can't cling on to. Lara gets a single to midwicket next ball, and Samuels cuts hard for another. Lara adds another single from an unlucky over for Malik.
WestIndies 152/3 (RR: 3.90): Samuels 44* (55), Lara 30* (48)
Over 38: Samuels cuts for a single, and Lara gets two with a premeditated sweep. Lara drives into the covers for a single. Samuels flicks to leg for a single that should have been two - lazy running from Samuels on this occasion.
West Indies 148/3 (RR: 3.89): Samuels 42* (52), Lara 28* (45)
Over 37: Samuels tickles the ball down the legside for two runs, and adds a single from the final ball of the over with a firm drive to long-on. Tidy start from Malik though.
West Indies 143/3 (RR: 3.86): Samuels 40* (49), Lara 25* (42)
Offspin at both ends now as Kaneria is removed from the firing line and replaced by Shoaib Malik.
Over 36: Samuels works the ball to midwicket for a single, and Lara effortlessly guides the next to deep cover for another. Samuels has pushed the field back with his hitting, and takes advantage of the infield gaps to collect another simple single on the offside this time.
West Indies 140/3 (RR: 3.89): Samuels 37* (43), Lara 25* (42)
Over 35: A wide from Kaneria brings up the 50 partnership. Lara joins Samuels in the maximum club, picking the googly and hitting inside out over cover for six runs. Lara gets four more from the final ball of the over with another brilliantly placed shot, cut behind point to the fence. Fine batting from one of the greats.
West Indies 137/3 (RR: 3.91): Samuels 35* (39), Lara 24* (40)
That's the second drinks break in Jamaica, and Samuels is leading a thrilling West Indies fightback after Pakistan strangled the top order. But the hosts still need at least another 10 overs of batting from this pair.
Over 34: Lara and Samuels exchange singles from the first two balls of the over. Lara places the next ball expertly through the covers to collect two more, before surviving a close lbw shout attempting to sweep. Lara gets the ball down the ground for a single, and Samuels blocks the last.
West Indies 126/3 (RR: 3.71): Samuels 35* (39), Lara 14* (34)
Over 33: Lara sweeps hard to deep square-leg for a single, so it's Kaneria v Samuels again. The batsman is down the wicket straight away, but has to stop his shot and block. The next ball Samuels stays back and is able to capitalise when Kaneria drops short, hitting through the covers for a single. Lara gets another quick single from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 121/3 (RR: 3.67): Samuels 34* (37), Lara 10* (30)
Over 32: Lara drives through the covers for a single. Samuels blocks a couple beofre bunting down the ground for a single. Lara has clearly had a word with Samuels to try and calm his excited partner. Lara keeps the strike with another single from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 118/3 (RR: 3.69): Samuels 33* (35), Lara 8* (26)
Over 31: Samuels comes down the track to hit Kaneria hard through mid-on for four. Samuels drives the next two balls equally hard, but straight at the bowler. No such problems from the fourth ball though, as he smashes it4 into the second tier of the new grandstand at midwicket. Great shot, and a fine counter-attack here from Samuels, who gets four more with a thin outside edge from an attempted drive. Poor shot, but good reward. Samuels misses an attempted cut shot from the final ball of the over, and the third umpire is called into action for the first time to clarify that Samuels did have his foot grounded when Akmal removed the bails. Samuels scored three runs from his first 20 balls; he's added 29 in his last 12.
West Indies 115/3 (RR: 3.71): Samuels 32* (32), Lara 6* (23)
Over 30: Samuels works Hafeez's first delivery to long-leg for a single. But Hafeez doesn't allow Lara to add anything further from the remaining five balls of the over, keeping the ball just outside the left-hander's off stump.
West Indies 101/3 (RR: 3.37): Samuels 18* (26), Lara 6* (23)
Iftikhar is out of the attack after going for 14 in his last over. Spin at both ends as offspinner Hafeez comes into the attack.
Over 29: Lara drives to long-on for a single, and Samuels adds another with a firm cut to deep point. Lara brings up his side's 100 with a quite exquisite late cut, taken almost out of the keeper's gloves and helped on its way to the fence. Lara picks Kaneria's googly and blocks it back down the track.
West Indies 100/3 (RR: 3.45): Samuels 17* (25), Lara 6* (18)
Over 28: Samuels has had enough of the prodding and poking, and launches Iftikhar high over long-off for the first six of the tournament and follows with a drive on the up over cover for four more. The next ball is banged in short, and Samuels is ready for that, helping it to deep square-leg for a single. Lara gets off the mark with a quick single to midwicket from the 13th ball he's faced. Samuels heaves the last ball of an expensive over into the legside for two more runs, and it looks like Samuels is in a rush.
West Indies 94/3 (RR: 3.38): Samuels 16* (24), Lara 1* (13)
Over 27: Samuels ends a 20-ball spell without a run by cutting to deep point for a single. Lara tries to sweep a legside delivery but misses. Akmal takes at the second attempt, but calls for a catch are silenced by Taufel signalling wide. Another wide follows two balls later, but Lara himself cannot get off the mark.
West Indies 80/3 (RR: 2.96): Samuels 3* (20), Lara 0* (11)
Over 26: Iftikhar completes the third maiden over in a row as Lara fails to get the ball through the cover ring. Hafeez claws back some of the runs he lost earlier with a stunning diving stop from the final ball of the over.
West Indies 77/3 (RR: 2.96): Samuels 2* (18), Lara 0* (7)
Over 25: Kaneria continues to build the pressure on Samuels, probing away outside the right-hander's off stump and completing a maiden over as the West Indies run-rate continues to go the wrong way from their perspective.
West Indies 77/3 (RR: 3.08): Samuels 2* (18), Lara 0* (1)
Over 24: Lara blocks his first ball to end another successful over from Iftikhar, a wicket-maiden on this occasion.
West Indies 77/3 (RR: 3.21): Samuels 2* (12), Lara 0* (1)
Brian Lara is the new batsman, with his West Indies side in a spot of trouble now after losing their two established batsmen.

RR Sarwan c Younis b Iftikhar 49 (65)
Sarwan is kept on 49 by a brilliant diving stop from Nazir at backward point. Sarwan is then beaten by a good back-of-a-length ball from Iftikhar before edging the next one straight to slip. Excellent cricket from Pakistan, first to build the pressure on Sarwan and second by installing a slip to a man on 49. Younis finally gets Sarwan, albeit 49 runs and 65 balls later than he should have done.
Over 23: Kaneria is the victim of some bad fielding this time as Mohammad Hafeez dives over Sarwan's delicate late cut at short third-man, turning a single into a boundary. Sarwan moves to 49 with a push to long-off, and Samuels pushes the final ball of Kaneria's second over to point for no run.
West Indies 77/2 (RR: 3.35): Sarwan 49* (60), Samuels 2* (12)
Over 22: Iftikhar continues to impress, jagging the ball past Sarwan's outside edge. Sarwan blocks the second, and is able to get a quick single from the third ball. Samuels blocks ball four, and cuts hard to third-man for one whenoffered some width. Sarwan works the final ball of the over to mid-on and gets through for a single that should probably have been cut off.
West Indies 72/2 (RR: 3.27): Sarwan 44* (55), Samuels 2* (11)
Over 21: Immediate turn for Kaneria, spinning the ball past Samuels' outside edge forst ball. Kaneria is straight on a good line and length, and Inzamam is attacking Samuels wit a slip despite the powerplay coming to an end. Kaneria starts with a perfectly-pitched maiden, and the early signs suggest the pitch will offer him something.
West Indies 69/2 (RR: 3.29): Sarwan 42* (51), Samuels 1* (9)
Pakistan have had much the better of the 20 powerplay overs, keeping the run-rate below 3.50 and picking up two crucial wickets. Kaneria has been at fault for a couple of the bopundaries West Indies have managed to accrue, but he now has the chance to make amends with his stronger suit - bowling legspin.
Over 20: Samuels blocks his first two deliveries, and gets off the mark with a deflection to third-man. Sarwan gets a thin edge to third-man that evades the ever-comical fielding efforts of Kaneria to reach the boundary.
West Indies 69/2 (RR: 3.45): Sarwan 42* (51), Samuels 1* (3)
Marlon Samuels is the new batsman for the hosts.

S Chanderpaul c Kamran Akmal b Iftikhar 19 (63)
Into the final powerplay over of the innings, and Sarwan guides the first ball to third-man for a single. Chanderpaul tries to do the same from the next ball, but can guide the ball only into the safe hands of a tumbling Akmal. Deserved reward for Iftikhar, and Chanderpaul has wasted a lot of deliveries playing himself in only to get out in meek fashion.
Over 19: Good ball from Naved, bringing the ball back to Sarwan and beating the inside edge. Sarwan pushes a no-ball to Kaneria at mid-on and scampers through for a well-judged single. Chanderpaul chops the last ball of the over into the ground and perilously close to the stumps. He survives, and Naved seems to have fared rather better since switching ends.
West Indies 63/1 (RR: 3.32): Chanderpaul 19* (62), Sarwan 37* (49)
Over 18: Sarwan guides the first ball to third-man for a single. Chanderpaul gets a single with an element of good fortune as the ball flies off a thick outside edge to third-man. Sarwan pushes to cover and calls for a quick single. Iftikhar is quickly onto the ball in his follow-through and forces Chanderpaul to dive for home, but he makes it safely. Chanderpaul is beaten by the final ball of the over, another good set of six from Iftikhar.
West Indies 61/1 (RR: 3.39): Chanderpaul 19* (59), Sarwan 36* (45)
Over 17: Better stuff from Naved, keeping the ball outside Chanderpaul's off stump for the first four balls of the over, and getting some good backing the field from Imran Nazir at point. The final ball of the over is a cracker, going away from the left-hander and beating the outside edge. Third maiden of the innings.
West Indies 58/1 (RR: 3.41): Chanderpaul 18* (56), Sarwan 34* (42)
Drinks here in Jamaica. Pakistan made a dream start, but Sarwan's aggression and Chanderpaul's patience have drawn the sting from the Pakistan attack, and batting is getting a touch easier.
Over 16: Sarwan drives the first ball of Iftikhar's third over sweetly but straight to mid-off. The next is a beauty from Iftikhar that seams away from Sarwan and beats the outside edge. Iftikhar spoils it though by following up with a half-tracker that Sarwan pulls hard through midwicket for a boundary. Sarwan tries to work the next delivery into the legside, but gets a leading edge as the ball straightens. No danger though, as the ball drops well short of the cover fielders. Another nice shot from Sarwan gets no run as he forces the ball hard off the back foot but straight to point.
West Indies 58/1 (RR: 3.63): Chanderpaul 18* (50), Sarwan 34* (42)
Bowden indicates to the crowd and scorers that Inzamam has taken the third and final powerplay straight away.
Over 15: Naved swings one into the pads of Chanderpaul, who is too good to miss out on a gift like that, whipping it through square midwicket for four good runs to bring up West Indies' 50. Chanderpaul gets two more with a firm push through extra-cover. Chanderpaul just showing signs of wanting to get a move on, but he can't find any gaps from the final three balls of the over.
West Indies 54/1 (RR: 3.60): Chanderpaul 18* (50), Sarwan 30* (36)
Naved is back into the attack, changing ends to replace Umar Gul.
Over 14: Iftikhar finally concedes a run from his 10th delivery as Sarwan cuts hard to Kaneria at third-man. The next ball comes off Chanderpaul's pads to long-leg for a leg-bye. Another impressive over from Iftikhar, who has settled in well here.
West Indies 48/1 (RR: 3.43): Chanderpaul 12* (44), Sarwan 30* (36)
Over 13: Umar Gul is into his seventh over, and Sarwan drives sweetly through point for four runs. Definitely the shot of the day that one. Sarwan misses out on a short ball next up, hammering it straight to the point fielder. Sarwan works into the legside for a single. Chanderpaul continues to be patient, letting the last two balls of the over go through to the keeper.
West Indies 46/1 (RR: 3.54): Chanderpaul 12* (43), Sarwan 29* (31)
Over 12: Iftikhar is right on target, beating Chanderpaul with his second delivery. Chanderpaul blocks the next two deliveries to cover-point and then leaves the next one alone. Iftikhar completes an accurate maiden over to start his spell.
West Indies 41/1 (RR: 3.42): Chanderpaul 12* (41), Sarwan 24* (27)
First bowling change of the innings as Iftikhar Anjum replaces the expensive Naved.
Over 11: Chanderpaul deflects Umar Gul to long-leg for a single. Sarwan has made his intentions very clear already this innings, and he misses an attempt at a ferocious cut shot as Umar Gul drops one short. Sarwan does exactly the same two balls later, and he's certainly living dangerously here.
West Indies 41/1 (RR: 3.73): Chanderpaul 12* (35), Sarwan 24* (27)
Simon Taufel waves his arm around his head to indicate the start of the second powerplay. So that's another five overs of fielding restrictions.
Over 10: Sarwan breaks the shackles with a high-class forcing shot through the covers off the back foot for four runs. Two balls later, Naved overpitches and Sarwan hammers a drive high over the top of cover for a second top-drawer boundary in the over. Naved appeals for lbw against Sarwan, but it's an optimistic shout with the ball travelling way over the top. Sarwan adds two more from an expensive over with a less-convincing drive that is in the air but falls safely.
West Indies 40/1 (RR: 4.00): Chanderpaul 11* (33), Sarwan 24* (23)
Over 9: Chanderpaul drives hard to mid-off, where Kaneria makes a decent stop. The next two balls force Chanderpaul onto the defensive, first off the front foot and then the back. A big lbw shout follows as Chanderpaul is trapped on the crease, but there was a question mark about the height and the ball pitched outside leg. Maiden over from Umar Gul, and Pakistanwill be pretty pleased with the start they've made here.
West Indies 30/1 (RR: 3.33): Chanderpaul 11* (33), Sarwan 14* (17)
Over 8: Chanderpaul is beaten outside the off stump, and is then forced to fend a short ball into the legside. A thick inside edge to deep square-leg gets Chanderpaul a single. Sarwan lets a couple of non-threatening outswingers go through to Akmal and solidly blocks the final ball of a tidy over from Naved.
West Indies 30/1 (RR: 3.75): Chanderpaul 11* (27), Sarwan 14* (17)
Over 7: Chanderpaul is prepared to be patient in these early stages, blocking or leaving each of the first four deliveries of Umar Gul's fourth over. The fifth ball is pushed just to Kaneria's right at mid-off, and that is all the invitation needed to take an easy single. The final ball of the over is short, and Sarwan pulls it effortlessly through square-leg for four runs.
West Indies 29/1 (RR: 4.14): Chanderpaul 10* (24), Sarwan 14* (14)
Over 6: Sarwan is beaten again outside the off stump as Naved finds some nice outswing. Sarwan wanders across his stumps to work Naved to midwicket for a single, and Chanderpaul plays a similar shot behind square for another single to end the over.
West Indies 24/1 (RR: 4.00): Chanderpaul 9* (19), Sarwan 10* (13)
Over 5: Umar Gul raps Chanderpaul on the pads with an inswinger. It would have gone on to hit the stumps, but pitched outside leg. Chanderpaul blocks to Danish Kaneria at mid-off who, with the batsmen having no intention of running, inexplicably lobs the ball high over Akmal's head and down to the boundary to present Chanderpaul and the West Indies with four free runs. An excellent, accurate over from Umar Gul. But for Kaneria's lack of accuracy, it would have been a maiden.
West Indies 22/1 (RR: 4.40): Chanderpaul 8* (18), Sarwan 9* (8)
Over 4: Naved strays onto leg stump, and Sarwan flicks him away fine on the legside for the first boundary of the innings and the tournament. Sarwan lets the next ball go through to Akmal outside the off stump, but it's a no-ball from Naved who hasn't made a good start to this over. He's back on it next up, jagging the ball between bat and pad as Sarwan plays an audacious drive to a ball of good length. Sarwan pulls his bat inside a short ball thsat carries through nicely to Akmal. Sarwan tries to cut a fairly wide ball from Naved but misses. Naved offers Sarwan a second chance, and this time the aggressive right-hander makes no mistake, hammering the ball in front of point for a second boundary of an eventful over. Naved ends the over with a good ball that squares Sarwan up and beats the outside edge. Entertaining stuff here in Jamaica.
West Indies 18/1 (RR: 4.50): Chanderpaul 4* (12), Sarwan 9* (8)
Over 3: Chanderpaul blocks a couple of straight deliveries - one a no-ball - and then pushes into the covers in the hope of a single, but he can't get it. Fine over from Umar Gul, picking up the crucial wicket of Gayle.
West Indies 9/1 (RR: 3.00): Chanderpaul 4* (12), Sarwan 1* (1)
Drop! Sarwan slashes wildly at his first delivery, and the ball flies off a thick edge to Younis Khan at second slip who can't hold on. Sarwan gets off the mark in lucky circumstances, and Younis will be a bit disappointed with that effort.
Ramnaresh Sarwan is in early for the hosts.

Chanderpaul chops a short ball to third-man for a single, but Gul then snares the first wicket of the World Cup, finding a healthy edge with an outswinger, and Akmal has aroutine chance behind the stumps. Good start for Pakistan's under-strength attack.
Over 2: A hint of swing for Naved, but Chanderpaul squeezes the ball to third-man for a single. More inswing next up from Naved, but it starts too wide of the left-handed Gayle who lets the ball go through to the keeper. Gayle mistimes an attempted drive through the covers that trickles to square-leg off a thick inside edge as Naved makes a good start. Umpire Billy Bowden has a word with Naved after just four edeliveries about his follow-through, and Gayle adds another single to third-man from ball five. Chanderpaul flicks the last ball of Naved's first over to long-leg for an easy single.
West Indies 6/0 (RR: 3.00): Gayle 2* (5), Chanderpaul 3* (7)
Rana Naved-ul-Hasan will share the new ball for Pakistan.
Over 1: Gayle works the first ball into the legside for the first run of the tournament. Chanderpaul blocks his first two deliveries, the second of which almost trickles onto the leg stump after hitting him on the thigh. Chanderpaul lets the next ball go through to Kamran Akmal, who gathers at ankle height. The first wide of the tournament arrives in the first over as Gul strays down the left-hander's legside.
