Bermuda 78 all out.

By Jonhenry Wilson

  • Powerplay overs in red.

Sri Lanka (321 for six) beat Bermuda (78 all out) by 243 runs with 25.2 overs remaining
Well well well! What can be said other than well done to Sri Lanka? The Bermudans were well and truly outclassed and let it be said once again - Out of all the minnow nations competing in the World Cup, they seem to be the nation most out of their depth. Lionel Cann can be pleased with his effort with the bat while Maharoof and Malinga must be happy with their four-fer and three-fer respectively. Until next time, cheers.

    D Leverock lbw Muralitharan 1 (8)

Leverock plays Murali on the back foot and the fourth ball of the over traps him on the pad and guess what... that's out! And the end of the match!

Over 24.4: Leverock sees off his first two balls and then gallops through to get off the mark with a single. The crowd go wild.

    WICKET
    L Cann c Sangakkara b Maharoof 28 (32)

Maharoof has a four-fer thanks to a slash outside the off-stump from Cann which is not middled and goes through to the 'keeper for a simple catch. Nice little vigil from Cann. But, there he goes. He did hammer one last four the ball before he gout out though!

Over 23: Hurdle refuses to go down without a fight as he slaps the ball over the mid-wicket ropes and into the parking lot for another enormous six. The rest of the over is pretty standard stuff.
    Bermuda 73/8 (RR: 3.17): Hurdle 6* (3), Cann 24* (30)
Bermuda need 249 runs to win from 27 overs at 9.22 runs per over.

    WICKET
    D Borden c sub (Kulasakera) b Maharoof 6 (25)

Cann picks up another four as Maharoof lacks in the length department for once, then a single and then Borden plays a drive straight to mid-off, easily pouched. So ends a stubborn stand of 25.

Over 21: Cann breaks the shackles and launches Murali over cow-corner for one huge six. Then he takes a single and Borden does nothing with the rest of the over.
    Bermuda 59/7 (RR: 2.80): Borden 6* (23), Cann 18* (24)
Bermuda need 263 runs to win from 29 overs at 9.06 runs per over.

Bermuda need 270 runs to win from 30 overs at 8.74 runs per over.

Over 19: Borden gets lucky and mis-times a four through mid-wicket as Murali continues to dominate these two batsmen.
    Bermuda 51/7 (RR: 2.60): Borden 6* (18), Cann 10* (16)
Bermuda need 271 runs to win from 31 overs at 8.74 runs per over.

Over 18: Maharoof cashes in on the Bermudan's lack of prowess with the bat with a nice tight maiden over.
    Bermuda 46/7 (RR: 2.60): Borden 2* (14), Cann 9* (14)
Bermuda need 276 runs to win from 32 overs at 8.60 runs per over.

Bermuda need 276 runs to win from 33 overs at 8.44 runs per over.

Over 16: A whip for two from Cann are the only highlight of this rather uniinspired over.
    Bermuda 43/7 (RR: 2.68): Borden 1* (2), Cann 9* (14)
Bermuda need 279 runs to win from 34 overs at 8.20 runs per over.

Third powerplay for the Sri Lankans - good choice!

Over 15: Borden and Cann pick up a single each to end off another over which nabbed a wicket.
    Bermuda 43/7 (RR: 2.68): Borden 1* (2), Cann 7* (8)
Bermuda need 283 runs to win from 35 overs at 7.97 runs per over.

    Drinks break!

Delyone Borden is the new batsman.

    WICKET
    J Tucker b Muralitharan 4 (21)

Murali does not take long to show the Bermudans who is the boss as Tucker cannot come to grips with the guile of the legendary spinner and chops on to his stumps. The fat lady is already beginning to warm up her voice and is ready to sing the praises of this clinical performance from Murali and co.

Over 14: Cann, like Tucker, evidently does not want to hang around for too long has he goes on the attack through mid-wicket, first with a two and then a mis-hit four.
    Bermuda 39/6 (RR: 2.81): Tucker 4* (18), Cann 6* (7)
Bermuda need 283 runs to win from 36 overs at 7.82 runs per over.

Over 13: Tucker is prepared to take on Murali straight away and manages to middle one which crawls to the mid-off fence. The rest of the over... Murali is by far the winner.
    Bermuda 33/6 (RR: 2.53): Tucker 4* (18), Cann 0* (1)
Bermuda need 289 runs to win from 37 overs at 7.67 runs per over.

Lionell Cann is in at number eight.

    WICKET
    D Minors c Sangakkara b Maharoof 4 (3)

Ouch again! Minors lashes a four to the fine-leg fence to get off the mark but two balls later edges Maharoof through to the 'keeper. The appeal is lodged and the finger raised! Minors ain't too happy with the decision but off he trots.

Dean Minors is the new man out in the middle.

    WICKET
    O Pitcher lbw b Maharoof 6 (28)

Oh dear! The mismatch continues as Maharoof strikes with his second ball of the game. He gets one to nip back in witch clips Pitcher's pad and crashes into the stumps. What a sorry sight 25 for five!

Change of bowling with Maharoof coming into the attack.

Over 11: It's another maiden with Tucker the man to play it out this time. Vintage Vaas!
    Bermuda 25/4 (RR: 2.27): Pitcher 6* (26), Tucker 0* (12)
Bermuda need 297 runs to win from 39 overs at 7.61 runs per over.

Sri Lanka will take the next powerplay.

Over 10: Bermuda are in no mood to take on Malinga as he sends down a fiery maiden over.
    Bermuda 25/4 (RR: 2.54): Pitcher 6* (26), Tucker 0* (6)
Bermuda need 297 runs to win from 40 overs at 7.39 runs per over.

Over 9: Just one run off the over which is pretty quiet given recent events. Vaas playing second fiddle to Malinga for once.
    Bermuda 25/4 (RR: 2.77): Pitcher 6* (20), Tucker 0* (6)
Bermuda need 297 runs to win from 41 overs at 7.24 runs per over.

Over 8: Tucker survives a really good shout for lbw from Malinga as the speedster fails to nab a hat-trick. Tucker then basically kicks the next ball for four leg-byes to up the Bermudan total oh so slightly.
    Bermuda 24/4 (RR: 3.00): Pitcher 5* (16), Tucker 0* (4)
Bermuda need 298 runs to win from 42 overs at 7.09 runs per over.

Tucker is the new batsman as the Bermudan downward spiral kicks off.

    WICKET
    I Romaine lbw Malinga 0 (1)

The skipper goes first ball as he is trapped dead in front - gone leg before wicket - it is an easy decsion for umpire Harper. Bermuda in dire straits as usual.

Irvine Romaine is the new batter.

    WICKET
    D Hemp c Jayawardene b Malinga 14 (18)

Malinga bangs one in hard and short which Hemp has to play at and only manages to edge to Jayawardene in the slips. Hemp was looking in such good touch but now is gone. Shame!

Over 7: Pitcher whips one through the on-side for a wonderful four after Hemp plays out three balls and runs a single.
    Bermuda 20/2 (RR: 2.50): Pitcher 5* (16), Hemp 14* (17)
Bermuda need 307 runs to win from 43 overs at 7.02 runs per over.

Over 6: Hemp shows his class lashing a four off the front foot and then punching one off the back foot for three. He then slashes outside the off-stump and misses before scampering through for a single. Nice over for Bermuda.
    Bermuda 15/2 (RR: 2.50): Pitcher 1* (14), Hemp 13* (13)
Bermuda need 307 runs to win from 44 overs at 6.97 runs per over.

Over 5: Hemp gets going nicely with a cut for two followed by a drive through the infield for three. Pitcher, is intent on just blocking things out.
    Bermuda 8/2 (RR: 0.70): Pitcher 1* (14), Hemp 6* (7)
Bermuda need 314 runs to win from 45 overs at 6.95 runs per over.

    Bermuda 3/2 (RR: 1.60): Pitcher 1* (11), Hemp 1* (4)
Bermuda need 319 runs to win from 46 overs at 6.96 runs per over.

David Hemp is the new man out in the middle - this man has heaps of experience on the county scene.

    WICKET
    S Mukuddem c Sangakkara b Malinga 0 (4)

Mukuddem goes for a fourth-ball quacker off the first ball of the over, giving a simple catch to the 'keeper off a peach of a delivery from Malinga.

Over 3: Emmaculate line from Vaas which Pitcher sees off, playing and missing a couple of times.
    Bermuda 2/1 (RR: 0.70): Pitcher 1* (10), Mukuddem 0* (3)
Bermuda need 320 runs to win from 47 overs at 6.66 runs per over.

Over 2: Malinga settles into his line and length quickly as Bermuda get off the mark with two runs.
    Bermuda 2/1 (RR: 1.00): Pitcher 1* (4), Mukuddem 0* (3)
Bermuda need 320 runs to win from 48 overs at 6.66 runs per over.

Lasith Malinga is the other opening bowler.

Over 1: Mukudden survives the last ball of the over.
    Bermuda 0/1 (RR: 0.00): Pitcher 0* (0), Mukuddem 0* (1)
Bermuda need 322 runs to win from 49 overs at 6.54 runs per over.

Mukuddem, who did not fair to badly with the ball, is the new batter.

    WICKET
    C Smith lbw Vaas 0 (5)

Oh dear! Here we go again. Smith blocks out the first four balls and looks to be in good touch. Alas, Vaas pitches one on the money, traps Smith on the pad, and that's it... he's gone.

Veteran Chaminda Vaas will bowl the first over.

The players are out on the field again and it looks as though, yes, Oliver Pitcher and Clay Smith will open the batting for the Bermudans.

    Lunch break!

    Sri Lanka: 321/6 (50 overs)
Bermuda need 322 to win at 6.44 runs per over

Place your bets now! Sri Lanka to win by about 200 runs! Nice work from Jayawardene, Sangakkara and Silva while Mukuddem didn't do too badly with the ball hey.

Over 49: Sri Lanka fail to make a huge impact with a bitof willow-wielding in the last over and lose the wicket of Maharoof. Oh well, surely this is enough to beat the Bermudans who, need we remind you, were bowled out for 45 against England in the warm-up rounds.
    Sri Lanka 321/6 (RR: 6.42): Silva 55* (45) Arnold 2* (1),

Russel Arnold is the new man in to bat.

    WICKET
    F Maharoof c Hemp b Mukuddem 9 (5)

Cann spills Maharoof in the deep but one ball later Hemp takes care of the catching business and sends the hard-hitting Maharoof back to the pavilion.

Over 49: Maharoof's intentions are clear as he middles one to the ropes for four and then edges another for another boundary. It's fireworks time!
    Sri Lanka 315/5 (RR: 6.42): Silva 51* (41) Maharoof 9* (4),

Farveez Maharoof - capable of some big-hitting - is the new man in

    WICKET
    T Dilshan c Tucker b Hurdle 12 (15)

Hurdle jumps high at shallow fine-leg to get rid of the dangerous Dilshan. Another great catch! Perhaps the paddle around the corner was not the order of the day there for the departing Dilshan.

Over 48: A quiet yet fruitful over for Sri Lanka getting them 11 runs, during which Silva went to his second ODI half-ton.
    Sri Lanka 305/4 (RR: 6.35): Silva 50* (40) Dilshan 12* (14),

    Silva 50: 40 balls, 4 x 4s

Mukuddem, by far the most economical bowler today, is back into the attack.

Over 47: In the context of the day that was a very good over - just four runs from it. Come now Sri Lanka! Enough with the singles and let us see some sixes!
    Sri Lanka 294/4 (RR: 6.25): Silva 43* (37) Dilshan 6* (11),

Hurdle is back into the attack for the closing overs.

Over 46: Leverock completes his spell for the day and is once again picked off for singles all over the arena. The Sri Lankans certainly have run well today, coupled with some calculated hitting.
    Sri Lanka 290/4 (RR: 6.32): Silva 42* (35) Dilshan 4* (10),

Over 45: Silva is going hell for leather now and the Bermudans don't have much of an answer for his stroke-play. Dilshan in the meantime is settling in nicely.
    Sri Lanka 284/4 (RR: 6.31): Silva 36* (29) Dilshan 3* (9),

Over 44: Leverock concedes another four and a handful of singles as Dilshan and Silva consolidate after the loss of their skipper.
    Sri Lanka 279/4 (RR: 6.29): Silva 27* (22) Dilshan 2* (7),

Over 43: Dilshan get off the mark with a quick single off the fourth ball and that's the end of a successful over!
    Sri Lanka 268/4 (RR: ?): Silva 20* (20) Dilshan 1* (4),

Tillekeratne Dilshan is the new batsman.

    WICKET
    M Jayawardene c Hurdle b Cann 85 (90)

Wow! Hurdle takes a blinder of a one-handed catch to remove Jayawardene from the middle. That truly was brilliant fielding and Cann sure is pleased.

Cann is back in the attack.

Over 42: Silva has gotten off to a flyer an adds to his quick-fire tally with two more fours dancing down the pitch to Leverock!
    Sri Lanka 267/3 (RR: 6.45): Jayawardene 87* (89), Silva 26* (21)

Over 41: Huge over for Sri Lanka as Silva launches Romaine for a sixer and then tickles him down to third-man for four. 16 off the over in total.
    Sri Lanka 262/3 (RR: 6.41): Jayawardene 84* (90), Silva 20* (14)

Over 40: Silva gets straight into the thick of things and sweeps Leverock for four, then picks up a single, leaving Jayawardene to play out the over.
    Sri Lanka 241/3 (RR: 6.07): Jayawardene 74* (86), Silva 12* (11)

Over 39: Five singles for the Sri Lankans sums up that boring over.
    Sri Lanka 236/3 (RR: 6.05): Jayawardene 75* (84), Silva 4* (6)

Over 38: Silva sees off the first two balls and then picks up a single on the sweep to get off the mark.
    Sri Lanka 229/3 (RR: 6.07): Jayawardene 73* (81), Silva 1* (3)

Chamara Silva is the new batter!

    WICKET
    K Sangakkara c Tucker b Leverock 76 (83)

Sangakkara's stint out in the middle comes to an end as he holes out on the mid-wicket fence. Comfortable catch for Tucker running in and a wicket for the Bermudan institution that is Dwayne Leverock! He is over the moon with that wicket!

Over 37: Romaine's opening over is all over the place an concedes eight runs, including one more four for Sangakkara on the on-side.
    Sri Lanka 226/2 (RR: ?): Jayawardene 70* (80), Sangakkara 75* (81)

    Romaine is into the attack.

Over 36: Cann's line and length goes astray as Sangakkara and Jayawardene cash in with more boundaries. The Bermudans, perhaps it goes without saying, are in serious strife.
    Sri Lanka 206/2 (RR: 5.64): Jayawardene 69* (79), Sangakkara 68* (76)

Over 35: Borden is bowling some pies now! Sanga' and Jaya' collect a four each from the short spinner as well as six other runs from runs around the park. Sri Lanka are stepping on the gas now for sure.
    Sri Lanka 206/2 (RR: 5.64): Jayawardene 65* (76), Sangakkara 62* (73)

Over 34: Sangakkara tries to force the pace off the back foot but hits a sketchy shot in the air. The fielders cannot get there in time. The ball seems to be following Leverock around the field who is certainly earning his salary today.
    Sri Lanka 192/2 (RR: 5.64): Jayawardene 57* (72), Sangakkara 56* (71)

Over 33: Seven runs off Borden's second over in singles and twos with Sangakkara notching up his 37th ODI half-century.
    Sri Lanka 185/2 (RR: 5.60): Jayawardene 54* (69), Sangakkara 53* (68)

    Sangakkara 50: 65 balls, 3 x 4s

Over 32: Ouch! Leverock puts down his second catch of the match and again it is Jayawardene who is the lucky man. Sangakkara hammers Cann's last ball of his opening over to the fence for another four.
    Sri Lanka 178/2 (RR: 5.56): Jayawardene 52* (67), Sangakkara 48* (64)

Lionell Cann is into the attack.

Over 31: Borden, half Leverock's height but just as wide, sends down an average over dotted with singles and twos, during which Jayawardene goes to his 35th ODI half-ton.
    Sri Lanka 171/2 (RR: 5.51): Jayawardene 50* (64), Sangakkara 43* (61)

    Jayawardene 50: 55 balls, 4 x 4s, 1 x 6

Delyone Borden is into the attack - another spinner!

Is that the drinks trolley? Yes, time for a drinks break!

Over 30: For more singles after which Sangakkara decides that's enough, gets down on one leg, and plays the slog-sweep for four. Nice one!.
    Sri Lanka 163/2 (RR: 5.37): Jayawardene 48* (62), Sangakkara 38* (57)

Over 29: Jayawardene goes huge over cow-corner for a big sixer! Sangakarra picks up a handful of singles and a rather indifferent spell from Tucker comes to an end.
    Sri Lanka 156/2 (RR: 5.37): Jayawardene 46* (58), Sangakkara 33* (55)

Over 28: Two singles for Sangakkara on the sweep and just the one for Jayawardene. Leverock is quite tidy in his line and length but really ain't spinning it much here today.
    Sri Lanka 146/2 (RR: 5.30): Jayawardene 39* (55), Sangakkara 30* (52)

Over 27: Yet another over liberally dotted with singles and a no-ball to boot. THe Bermudans had better get a wicket soon before these two stalwarts start to launch.
    Sri Lanka 143/2 (RR: 5.30): Jayawardene 38* (52), Sangakkara 28* (49)

Over 26: Sangakkara too dances down the pitch to Leverockand smacks him through covers for three. Before that, a trio of singles picked off easily.
    Sri Lanka 138/2 (RR: 5.30): Jayawardene 36* (48), Sangakkara 26* (46)

Over 25: Bermuda persist with Tucker and he is picked off all around the ground for singles and twos at will. An shot in the air from Sangakkara doesn't quite carry to the fielder.
    Sri Lanka 131/2 (RR: 5.30): Jayawardene 33* (45), Sangakkara 22* (43)

Over 24: Leverock keeps the batters at bay for the first four balls of the over but then the Sri Lankan skipper dances down the track and lashes the spinner over cover for for and then a sweep for the single.
    Sri Lanka 125/2 (RR: 5.20): Jayawardene 32* (43), Sangakkara 18* (38)

Over 23: Just a single for Jayawardene and then Sangakkara plays a variety of strokes but fails to find the gap.
    Sri Lanka 118/2 (RR: 5.11): Jayawardene 26* (38), Sangakkara 17* (37)

Over 22: Left-armer Leverock goes for six runs in his first over. A three cut hard to the sweeper fence by Sangakkara, followed by a trio of singles - mostly from the sweep shot.
    Sri Lanka 117/2 (RR: 5.31): Jayawardene 25* (35), Sangakkara 17* (34)

The moment we have all been waiting for. The giant frame of Dwayne Leverock is into the attack.

Over 21: Tucker sends down another over of those off-spin-come-medium-pacers with the Lankans picking up three more runs.
    Sri Lanka 111/2 (RR: 5.28): Jayawardene 23* (32), Sangakkara 13* (31)

Over 20: A quiet over with Hurdle bowling two wides and one of the biggest no-balls we've ever seen. Sangakkara then runs through for a quick single.
    Sri Lanka 108/2 (RR: 5.44): Jayawardene 23* (32), Sangakkara 10* (25)

Over 19: Sangakkara gets in on the act hammering one to the backward point fence for his first boundary and then picks up a quick scamper through for two.
    Sri Lanka 103/2 (RR: 5.50): Jayawardene 22* (30), Sangakkara 9* (20)

Tucker is back into the attack.

Over 18: Jaya' hogs all the strike again polishing a fullish delivery from Hurdle to the ropes. The rest of the over is made up of dot balls. Did you know? Jayawardene is the seventh captain Sri Lanka have had in their World Cup history?
    Sri Lanka 97/2 (RR: 5.44): Jayawardene 22* (30), Sangakkara 3* (14)

Over 17: Wow Jayawardene is looking confident! He drives hard twice picking up a two and a single for his efforts. That's the sum total of the over.
    Sri Lanka 93/2 (RR: 5.41): Jayawardene 18* (24), Sangakkara 3* (14)

Over 16: Jaya' and Sanga' pick up a couple of singles each after which Hurdle bowls a wide followed by a couple of dot balls.

Over 15: Jayawardene tickles to fine-leg for four off the first ball of the over after which he and Sangakkara pretty much milk a couple of singles around the park.
    Sri Lanka 85/2 (RR: 5.66): Jayawardene 13* (17), Sangakkara 1* (9)

The third and final powerplay will be taken.

    Sri Lanka 79/2 (RR: 5.85): Jayawardene 9* (14), Sangakkara 0* (6)

Over 13: Mukuddem stuffs the first ball of the over down the legside for a wide, but he's back on track for the rest of the over and keeps Jayawardene quiet.
    Sri Lanka 79/2 (RR: 6.08): Jayawardene 9* (14), Sangakkara 0* (0)

Over 12: Kumar Sangakkara is the new batsman.

    WICKET!
    WU Tharanga c Minors b Hurdle 30 (47)

Hurdle starts with a no-ball, but gets a wicket with the final ball of the over as Tharanga is strangled down the legside.

Hurdle is back into the attack for Bermuda. This could go wrong.

Over 11: Mukuddem strays onto Tharanga's pads, and he works the ball to leg for a single. The next ball is wide down the legside and evades Minors, allowing the batsmen to make that wide worth two. Tharanga steers to deep point for another single, and Jayawardene gets four with a classical drive, eased through the covers off the front foot. The batsmen collect singles from the final three balls of an expensive over.
    Sri Lanka 74/1 (RR: 6.72): Tharanga 29* (43), Jayawardene 7* (5)

Over 10: Jayawardene works Tucker into the legside, but Tharanga is forced to wait until the final ball of the over to add to his total, working the ball behind square on the legside for a single.
    Sri Lanka 65/1 (RR: 6.50): Tharanga 27* (39), Jayawardene 2* (3)

Over 9: Jayawardene is dropped first ball! He edges into the slips where Dwayne Leverock can't hold on. Jayawardene gets off the mark second ball with a quick single in front of point, and Tharanga blocks the final ball of the over.
    Sri Lanka 63/1 (RR: 7.00): Tharanga 26* (34), Jayawardene 1* (2)

Captain Mahela Jayawardene is the new batsman for Sri Lanka.

    WICKET!
    ST Jayasuriya c Pitcher b Mukuddem 22 (26)

Big wicket for Bermuda, as Jayasuriya carves the ball straight to Pitcher at point who holds on to the catch.

Over 8: Tharanga gets four streaky runs with a thick edge over slip, and then gets three runs with a carve over cover that is well fielded by Lionel Cann. The next ball is cut hard by Jayasuriya, and again Cann makes a fine stop to keep a certain boundary down to a single.
    Sri Lanka 62/0 (RR: 7.75): Tharanga 26* (33), Jayasuriya 22* (23)

Over 7: Mukuddem's first ball is slightly harshly signalled wide to bring up Sri Lanka's 50. An ugly mow over the top of mid-on gets Jayasuriya three runs. Tharanga forces into the covers for a single, and Jayasuriya is beaten by a good ball to end the over.
    Sri Lanka 54/0 (RR: 7.71): Tharanga 19* (28), Jayasuriya 21* (22)

Over 6: Jayasuriya gets a thick inside edge into the legside for a single, and Tharanga defends the next two before clipping the next one wide of short fine-leg for four more. Tharanga gets two more with a flick into the legside.
    Sri Lanka 49/0 (RR: 8.17): Tharanga 18* (25), Jayasuriya 18* (19)

Over 5: Jayasuriya gets a single on the legside, and Tharanga then frees his arms to lash a drive over point for six runs. Surprisingly, the next three runs don't disappear for runs as Mukuddem keeps it on a decent line and length.
    Sri Lanka 42/0 (RR: 8.40): Tharanga 12* (20), Jayasuriya 17* (18)

Mukuddem does change ends, as a desolate Hurdle is removed from the attack after one of the worst, and longest, overs in World Cup history. Jayasuriya is having some more treatment on that finger injury he sustained from one of Hurdle's surprise straight balls.

Over 4: The first ballcomes off Tharanga's pads for a couple of leg-byes, and the next two balls are nudged away for singles. A good ball from Tucker beats Tharanga's outside edge, and some normality is restored in that over.
    Sri Lanka 35/0 (RR: 8.75): Tharanga 6* (16), Jayasuriya 16* (16)

Janeiro Tucker is into the attack, which presumably means Mukuddem will be changing ends.

Over 3: Problems for Hurdle as he starts with a no-ball that Jayasuriya uppercuts over the slips for four. The next ball is another no-ball that comes off Jayasuriya's pads for a leg-bye. The first legitimate ball of the over is worked to fine-leg by Tharanga for a single. Another no-ball from Hurdle - his fifth already - is followed by, glory be, a dot ball. Hurdle's next ball is a wide. The next ball is valid, but Jayasuriya clips it fine on the legside for an easy boundary, and gets a quick single from the next delivery. Another wide follows, and there are still two balls left in this over although nine have been delivered. Tharanga works to leg for a single. The next ball is a full-toss and Jayasuriya hammers it through point for four more. Guess what? It was a no-ball. Another no-ball follows, and another, and this is embarrassing to watch. There have been thirteen deliveries in this over, only five of them legitimate. Thankfully the 14th is a dot ball, and the madness can end.
    Sri Lanka 31/0 (RR: 10.33): Tharanga 5* (11), Jayasuriya 15* (15)

Over 2: Tharanga squeezes a full ball to third-man for two runs, and then drives hard but straight at short-cover. The next two balls are on a good line outside the left-hander's off stump and Tharanga lets them go. Tharanga blocks the final ball of the over. Good start for Mukuddem.
    Sri Lanka 7/0 (RR: 3.50): Tharanga 3* (9), Jayasuriya 2* (5)

Saleem Mukuddem will share the new ball. Hopefully his over won't take 11 minutes.

Over 1: Hurdle starts with a no-ball, and Tharanga lets the next strike him on the thigh. Tharanga works the next ball to leg for a single, and Jayasuriya gets a quick single that becomes two thanks to an overthrow. Another no-ball follows, but the next ball is a good one that bounces at Jayasuriya and strikes him on the finger. Jayasuriya is in some pain, and requires some attention. There's a fair bit of blood coming from his left indez finger, and this is a worrying start for Sri Lanka. Ludicrously, the first-aiders come screeching onto the field with a stretcher. Don't think Sanath will need that for a finger injury, however bad it may be. Jayasuriya is eventually able to continue after lengthy treatment, and lets the last ball of an eventful over go through to the keeper.
    Sri Lanka 5/0 (RR: 5.00): Tharanga 1* (3), Jayasuriya 2* (5)

Keith Hurdle will bowl the first over of the day.

The Bermuda players are out on the field, followed by Sri Lanka's formidable opening duo Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya.

Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bat first.
