West Indies, March 13 - April 28 |
The only centurion in Bermudan one-day-international history following his impressive 101 against Canada. A hard-hitting right-handed batsman and occasional off-break bowler who can also keep wicket when required, Romaine's experience will be crucial when skippering his side in their first World Cup.
Bermuda born but Welsh raised, Hemp has more than 13,000 first class runs to his name. Was a key part of the Warwickshire side in the late nineties, before returning to Wales in 2002 where he has consistently scored runs, and will captain Glamorgan in the 2007 season. Was linked with an England call-up in his hey-day, but is now Bermuda’s key man.
A top order batsman who has potential but has so far flattered to deceive in ODIs. Seems capable against quicker bowling but has been found out against spin. Was apparently punched in a domestic Bermudan match after allegedly spitting on an opponent.
Experienced, solid right-handed batsman who is reliant on placement rather than power. Seems to have overcome a long-term knee injury (he had an operation in 2006 that he needed as early as 2003), Smith has an ODI fifty to his name but will hope to improve on his modest average in the World Cup.
A big hitter who played some of his club cricket in Scotland, Cann tends to come in at six or seven and get very quick runs for the Bermudans, as his strike rate proves. Cann also bowls useful medium pacers, but has yet to prove his bowling chops at the highest level.
A right-handed batsman who has been in the Bermudan national team set-up for a number of years but has yet to really make his mark. Will be looking to make an impact if given the chance.
Bermuda’s wicketkeeper and vice-captain, Minors would certainly make the side based on his elegant left-handed stroke play alone, with an impressive ODI average in the thirties. Energetic behind the stumps, he is the man who inspires Bermuda in the field. A stalwart of thirteen years and counting, Minors could be one of Bermuda’s key men in the World Cup.
Likely to provide back-up to regular keeper and vice-captain Dean Minors, Tucker could well have a quiet tournament. Doubts over his fitness kept him out of the Bermudan squad that contested the World Cricket League in Kenya, but fought off competition from Jekon Edness for a World Cup berth.
Young all-rounder with a good temperament who has been fast-tracked to the international side after encouraging performances at youth level. A right-handed batsman who has yet to be given a real chance with the ball.
An all-rounder who usually bats in the middle-order but has been promoted to open the innings. The young right-hander has yet to live up to his ability with the bat but has shown form with his tidy off-spin bowling. Bowls a tight line that is tricky to hit away, Borden boasts an impressive economy rate outside the ODI arena, and at a young age can only get better.
A veteran all-rounder, Mukuddem is a steady performer with both bat (he has an ODI fifty to his name) and ball. Sending down accurate medium pacers, his performances provided one of the few plus points in Bermuda's recent tri-series loss against Canada and the Netherlands.
Useful all-rounder whose father also played for Bermuda. A tidy medium-pace swing bowler who tends to stem the flow of runs rather than take dozens of wickets. An all-round cricketer, Tucker is a solid batsman with an ODI fifty to his name and is one of the better fielders in the Bermudan squad.
A 19-stone Bermudan cricketing legend who should enjoy a fitting end to his international career with an appearance at the World Cup finals. A slow left-arm orthodox bowler who took five for 53 in an ODI against Kenya
Tall, athletic right-arm fast-bowler who helped inspire Bermuda to their first one-day international victory over Canada in May 2006 with figures of three for 56. Has genuine pace and will hope to extract bounce from the Caribbean pitches.
The big hope for the future of Bermudan cricket. An outstanding seam-bowling prospect who is expected to take the new ball. He has trained with English county side Leicestershire and has been tipped by Australian expert Rod Marsh to turn professional.
