Moores would 'bridge the gap'
By PA Sport staff
Sussex coach Mark Robinson believes Peter Moores would "bridge the gap" between the England set-up and the county game if he is appointed to succeed Duncan Fletcher as England coach.
England and Wales Cricket Board chairman David Morgan has revealed that within the the next 48 hours the board expect to appoint a caretaker coach and may even have a permanent successor to Fletcher in place "quite quickly".
Englishman Moores is a leading candidate for either role with Australian-born Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody and Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore, a Sri Lankan, the other main contenders to be Fletcher's permanent successor.
Robinson, who led Sussex to the County Championship title last season, told Sky Sports News: "I think Peter would be breath of fresh air for England and the game as a whole.
"He'll help bridge the gap between county and Test cricket - in the county game we want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
"We've had no direction from the England management in terms of what we can do.
"We want to help England and we would like to know how we can - but we've heard nothing."
The 40-year-old continued: "We want to be one force going forwards - this Team England thing can embrace us all.
"At the moment there's not enough feedback when players are left out and come back to county cricket.
"They feel neglected, there's been no direction about how they can get back in and what was wrong at the time.
"The younger players need help with playing spin - and we haven't had that."
But the former Northamptonshire, Yorkshire and Sussex medium pacer believes Moores can reproduce the successful work he did with Sussex at a higher level.
Robinson added: "Peter has got drive, ambition and vision - he's doesn't let things stand still.
"He's always looking to push on and he needs to be backed, given the ability to create a structure which would last.
"We're still reaping the benefits of what he did here.
"Duncan Fletcher has done some good things and had a lot of success as well but sometimes you need a change and it's time to look forward to a new regime under Peter Moores."
